I don't personally have any suggestions (I've been pointing my mom toward Coldwater Creek), but I've always liked this website and, if you can't find an answer in its posts, I know its bloggers will answer emailed questions:
Coldwater Creek is a good option, sometimes. Igigi, Lane Bryant, and Kiyonna might also have something suitable, depending on your idea of "affordable". These sites all have loads of coupon codes floating around, too!
You might look at http://www.prettypear.com/ and the Manolo for the Big Girl sites.
Some of my bridesmaids were plus size and they got their dresses from David's Bridal, but they also had nice dresses for MOB's. I don't know what sizes you're looking for, but if you go to the wedding shop on http://shop.nordstrom.com/ they have really pretty dresses in plus sizes. You can also try Macy's or Catherine's. Sometimes Lane Bryant has nice semi-formal/formal attire, but you have to really be checking for it.

Dear Brides,
As a total twig myself, I have no idea where to start looking for beautiful and affordable plus sized dresses and skirts for some of my relatives. We're having a big photoshoot a few months before the wedding with all the "girls" in my family, including my grandmother and at least one aunt (maybe two) who are plus sized. I really want to find beautiful ivoryish colored outfits for everyone, as I've already chosen the dresses for my mock flowergirls and junior/bridesmaids in creme.
