Here's the Baltimore Knottie review page, there are a few bridal salons listed there, to give you an idea of which ones to go to and which ones to avoid, at least by some bride's opinions!
I know you are looking for north of Baltimore, but if you don't have any luck there is a small (but great) bridal boutique in Annapolis Maryland called Lex Bridal. Even though it is a small shop they have a very big selection, good prices, and great customer service. Good Luck!
There is a shop called "Garnish" which sells casual wedding dresses and really nice bridesmaids dresses. It's up 83 in Mt. Washington.
I also like the Columbia Bridal Boutique and Betsy Robinson's Bridal - Robinson's might be a bit fancy for what you need, but the Columbia Bridal Boutique is pretty good.
I personally had a pretty bad experience with Betsy Robinson's - basically, after my appointment there, I called at least 3 or 4 times to try to place an order, and I couldn't get a call back for the life of me. I've heard of others having good experiences there, but I wasn't so lucky.
I ended up purchasing my dress at Columbia Bridal, and was satisfied with the service I got there. Not exceptional, but not bad. I didn't get my alterations done there though, so I can't vouch for that.
Good luck!
Thanks Ladies. My mom and I went to a few places last weekend...
MJourdelle (Towson)...Largest selection of informal/destination dresses of the day. Small store simply jammed packed with gowns. Little more on the expensive side but definitely had affordable gowns as well. They let you pick through yourself, which I prefer to trying on dresses someone else picks that I hate. The one saleswoman was a bit pushy...but I suppose thats her job.
Poor Little Rich Girl (Perry Hall)...AWFUL. The sales woman at this store was incredibly rude from the moment we walked up. The door wouldn't open and after both my mother and I giving it a few tries an older lady walked over opened the door and curtly walked away with out even a hello. There were dog toys scattered throughout the store...I wouldn't keep a bischon or any dog in a room with expensive gowns. She only showed me dresses that could only be bought off the rack. After about 15 minutes of her being rude and short with my mother and I, we left.
Stella's Bridal and Gifts (Baltimore City)...Pleasant and Affordable. They didn't have a very large selection of sample dresses in the store, but can order from a wide variety. Katie was very helpful without being overbearing, and from the whole day the only salesperson to understand what I was looking for (even tho. I showed all pictures, had style #s, and a very specific description). I would reccommend trying on types of dresses from other stores and possibly ordering from here.
JC's Bridal (Parkville)...This is a small shop on Harford Rd, and they never seem to be open when I drive by, but they were on Saturday. They keep all of their bridal gowns in a back room which only the saleswoman goes in. The saleswoman was nice, but couldn't grasp the concept that I was looking for a simple a line gown preferably with a sweetheart neckline, not strapless...and kept bringing out corsets and tulle skirts.
I'll write more as/if I look more places
This is a little farther away, but I'm getting my dress from Aria in DC. They mostly deal with bridesmaids dresses, so they had exactly what I was looking for - simple, light, easy. If you don't want to go into DC, they also have a try-on program where they'll mail dresses to your home, although it can get a little pricey ($15/item for them to mail, and you have to mail it back to them express).
A vote for M'Jourdelle here. I got my dress there last year and had a great experience. While their overall selection may have been on the more expensive side, their prices for the same dress compared to other stores (including some of the online discount stores!) were really good. My dress was only $950 there, but other stores were asking upwards of $1100.
Also about MJourdelle, avoid Saturdays if you can--its much less crowded on weekdays. And try to get one of the two owners, Linda or Delia--they are much more pleasant to work with than some of the other staff.
It might be a little far for you, but I got my dress at I Do, I Do in Gaithersburg - it was a consignment, brand new with tags Maggie Sottero for under $700.
I went to Priceless Moments in Fallston yesterday and they are a fab little shop with a decent selection of "destination" dresses. Their prices were affordable and their staff was fantastic. I went by myself and they were very helpful!
Hey! Here are some salons I've gone to/heard of in the area:
Gamberdella (Towson) - I wouldn't really recommend this one if you're going for casual and inexpensive. They don't let you look at the dresses, they bring them out for you (which I didn't really enjoy).
Lily's Bridal (Glen Burnie) - I had a really good experience there and they had relatively inexpensive options (it seemed they were all ~$1100 or less). Also had a whole rack of 'destination' dresses that were much more simple and flowy which could be a good option for your beach wedding!
Bridals by Elena (Severna Park) - I've heard they have a great selection, but perhaps a little pricey?
Juliet's Bridal Boutique (Parkvillle, MD) - they were very nice and you can look through the gowns yourself. Don't remember the prices exactly, but I found several to try on in my price range, so they weren't super expensive.
Good luck, and have fun!!

Anyone know of any good bridal shops in the area? I'm looking for an informal gown for a beach wedding. Anywhere in the city, towson, white Marsh, all the way to Bel Air area would be great.
As always...thanks ladies
