Hi Bees,
So I need some opinions on this... My fiance and I live in Detroit but we are originally from FL. My parents live on the west coast and his lives on the east. However, only our parents are there and not the entire family as they are spread out across the country. Also it is like a 60% / 40% split on the guests list (60% being the ones that live in state but no one lives less than 2 hour driving distance from the location of where we would have the wedding/reception at).
Here is the dilemma:
I would prefer to plan and have our wedding here in Detroit. Its convenient and easier (probably cheaper as well) for us to plan and organize especially since I'm doing a lot of DIY stuff for ceremony/reception. My fiance on the other hand wants to marry in FL to make sure that its easier and cheaper for the guests to come since 60% would only have to drive and not buy a plane ticket.
I personal hate FL and hate anything related to beach wedding and/or destination weddings so the thought of FL never appealed to me in general. And my feeling are that I understand it may be cheaper for the guests but it wont be cheaper for US! And WE are the ones paying for it! The flights down to check things out and vacation days we will have to use to plan all this make it even more costly for us not to mention more stressful.
People fly and travel all the time for weddings so I personally dont see it being a big deal but I know my fiance (and this is why I love him) is very caring and is a people pleaser and wants to accommodate his guests.
Has anyone else been in this position? Thanks!!
