Do you need plastic ribbon because you just like it? I see normal satin, silk or grosgrain on cakes all the time.

I’m not sure where to find waterproof ribbon, but a floral supply website or store would be a good place to start.

I would ask your baker. I’ve seen it done, so I’m sure there is a way to make whatever ribbon work. What color ribbon do you want to use?

Just to second what KateMW said, I see regular old ribbon on cakes all the time! I think you’d be fine with normal ribbon. If the baker says you need plastic backing, maybe you could put plastic backing on regular ribbon with contact paper?
