my fiancé and I are having a really hard time figuring out our honeymoon itinerary! We will fly into Paris on a Tuesday morning and will leave the following Wednesday so we will have 8 days. We want to plan a trip to go someplace other than Paris while we’re there – Probably for 2 full days. Our first thought was the south of France (cassis in particular) but we weren’t sure whether we wanted to spend 4 hours on a train to get there or whether we should go same place else … There are just so many options! London, Brussels, Geneva, Normandy….I’m just overwhelmed and can’t make a decision! Any thoughts???

Skip Brussels, it’s OK for a day but really, it’s boring compared to all the other old beautiful cities in Belgium. I’d suggest Antwerp, Brugges, or Ghent if you want Belgium.
You can do Frankfurt in Germany or hop on the high speed to Amsterdam or London.

We are doing the exact same thing! (Wait, are you my FI because he was just research this… JK!).
We looking in to London but the train was so expensive for one or two days. I think we are looking in to Brugges or Belgium as of right now.

What you do with a couple of days outside of Paris will depend on your interests. It sounds like you aren’t to keen on traveling for very long. So we would recommend maybe spending a couple of days in the Loire Valley visiting the beautiful chateaux, bicycling, and possibly even a hot air air balloon ride. Or, if you are history buffs, then visiting the D-Day beaches in Normandy are more of your thing. There’s also the majestic Mont St. Michel abbey/island which is easily combined with WWII battle sites. Spending time at Versailles, Fontainbleu, or Giverny are also viable options. Or you could visit the Champagne or Burgundy regions if you are into wine. Don’t get me wrong. Europe as a whole is captivating. But there are still a lot places to see that aren’t too far from Paris. Bonne chance!

@redheadbride58: you can take the Chunnel to london. My brother and his girlfriend went there in July and loved London.

@redheadbride58: we took the eurostar from london to paris. it was great. there was a lot to do and see in london though so if you only have a couple of days, you may want to save that for another trip.
maybe the south of france for a few days would be nice.

2 days in London including travel is gonna be very rushed. Why not just go to the french country side. Champaign tour? Alps? Beach? they got it.
If you want do do more city trips go to Belgium see the peeingboy and the center of Brussels and then go to ghent or brugge.

@redheadbride58: Are you leaving on the 1st too? I just re-read and saw that you are leaving on a Tuesday too! HA! We are there for the same length. If you’re flying out of Chicago and connecting in Dublin, we’re probably on the same plane!

I would not go to Brussels if I were you, it truly sucks. Honestly the crappiest city I’ve ever been in. Never felt so unsafe anywhere else, and it was very dirty. If you want to go somewhere else, then go to the Netherlands, friendlier people and nice cities.

go to giverny for a day trip
theres a high speed train to Marseilles from Paris
you could fly somewhere short distance – try skyscanner.com and search Paris to Anywhere to see whats available – sometimes there are great deals
overnight trains are always a good option and save you on accomodation
