Where are you located? The Caribbean is still a great beach destination that is usually much more affordable.
I'm on the east coast, where its much cheaper but it sure wont cost you $9,000. If you wait until august it would be even cheaper. How about southern mexico, like ixtapa? Or even Central America, belize, costa rica?
This could be an idea. Bit how about going on a cruise? I am not really sure where you are located but my SO and I are goin on a cruise over New Years Eve for 12 nights. It goes through the South Pacific and we are visiting all of the different beaches and islands.. Noumea, Isle of Pines, Champagne Bay, Mystery Island, Villa, Wala, Champagne Bay.... This is all around Vanuatu and it is going to be amazing! If you go on a crusie EVERYTHING will be taken care of.. you can eat, sleep, relax, and just enjoy a break with your new hubby. I am in Australia so I am not sure what kind of cruises are available where you are but it is def worth looking into. We paid $3000 each but that is a bit pricey for a cruise (it is due to peak time... over holidays etc..) Usually they are between $1200-$3000 pp depending on how long and where you go.
Good luck xx
Comsidering your still wanting to buy a house 9000 seems like alot to spend on a HM. There alot more reasonable places in Caribean to go. We have gone to Aruba (rui palace)and for our honeymoon Antigua (sandals grande Antigua) for 5k. You could always go to Mexico or Cuba much cheaper as well. I would put the majority of the 9000 towards a Down payment of a house!
Wow! 9,000--Yikes! I understand the desire to go to the destinations you have in mind, but is right now the time? Is the honeymoon a once in a lifetime trip or will you have other opportunities to go later in life when you won't have just spent so much on big life changes?
If its a now or never thing, at least wait a few months for the low season. Most resorts consider it your honemoon and give you perks anywhere from 3 months after the wedding or 1 year after.
If you can put it on the back burner for a while and go to your dream destination for an anniversary or something, I would look into less expensive destinations like Mexico or the Caribbean.

Im not getting married for another 11 months, but me and the FI are talking about a honeymoon and trying to estimate about how much we should pay. Were spending about $17,000+ on our wedding. We are paying for about $11,000 of that and my parents are paying for $6,000. Were also buying a house, so between that and our wedding, we dont have much for a honeymoon. The only registry we set up was a honeymoon registry, so hopefully we will get something from that. His family doesnt have money to give, and I feel bad asking my parents for too much more, so this is pretty much on us. With that being said, our honeymoon is very important to us and we want to do something special. I really want to go to the French Polynesia and stay in Moorea and Bora Bora. But just estimating, its looking like $9,000+ (our wedding is next july = peak season). Is there anyway to make it there a budget wisely? Or has anyone gone to a nice relaxing tropical place that will cost a little less (comparable to something like Bora Bora)? And what percentage of your wedding did you put to honeymoon costs? We are not going into debt for our wedding, and certainly do not want to for our honeymoon!
