Now that we have our date set at February 20th 2016 I have been starting to think about honeymoon locations. Obviously I have a while to figure it all out but just brainstorming for the moment (because who doesn’t enjoy dreaming of a holiday while at work).
Where are some good places (weather wise and cost effective) to travel to in Feb? I’ll take all options (beach, adventure, sight seeing, whatever!).
Part of us is considering going to Japan… We are both avid snowboarders and would love to experience the Feb POW of Japan, but we haven’t locked that in yet because we also kind of want to do something romantic.
Any other Bees planning /have been on a honeymoon in Feb? Any ideas?

Have you ever heard of a little island called Curacao? Lots of sun and beaches, very romantic but you can also do some more active things. So that’s nice if you like warm weather. But I’m biased, because there is where I’m from 🙂
But we want to go to Japan too, so that’s a great choice in my opinion.

OneDayMrsL: I’m getting married Feb 2015. We’re doing 5 – 7 days at an AI (likely Punta Cana) and then 7 days in Banff, AB to ski (Big 3).
The other places were considered – Fiji & LA, NZ & AU (decided we didn’t have enough time to go right after the wedding), South Africa, St Maarten, Turkey, the Galapagos Islands (sailing), Brazil & Chile (possibly also Patagonia). We said no for various reasons. We were all ready to go to Fiji and then decided to buy a house.

anywhere in the Caribbean! Hawaii. South Africa. You already know I’ll be in bora bora lol. We’re big beach people so that’s where all my ideas come from!

OneDayMrsL: Also, do you have any points? Our flights from Toronto to Alberta were booked on airmiles, we paid $300 in taxes and surcharges. And we have enough points for the entire stay at the Delta Banff (with lift tickets included.) We’ll only have to pay for food, incidentals and transportation to and from the airport.
The AI part we’re paying out of pocket. It’s fairly cost effective though. And weather should be good in Feb.
We earned most our points putting wedding expenses on the card. We pay it off, so there’s no interest. Our wedding is at a resort and we get double points on hotels, so we’ve scored double points at the resort for all our wedding stuff. Also, by putting the AI portion on the card before booking the hotels we’re maxing out our points before cashing them in.

sostobe: Ahh what you’re doing would be ideal! Our problem is that the best man is getting married 3 months after us (and my FI will be his best man) so we don’t want to be gone for too long. I just don’t feel like we will have time to do Japan and somewhere ‘romantic’.
PS.. We actually lived at Panorama Mountain Resort for 18 months which is about 2 hours out of Banff. If you haven’t been to Banff you will absolutely love it! Such a beautiful area!
Mrs.Massontobee: I shall google this island 🙂

OneDayMrsL: I haven’t been to Banff. I’m so excited. I have been to Aspen and would totally go back, but we wanted the honeymoon to be somewhere neither of us had been before. We’ve both travelled quite a bit, so it was tough to narrow it down.
From my own travels, I’d totally do Bolivia, Peru, Costa Rica again. 🙂

February can be a month of extreme temperature, so I would want to go somewhere with opposite weather.

sostobe: No points for us, aside from our living abroad stage we haven’t been big travellers and neither of us has a credit card.
ksn1219: Maybe we will come crash your Bora Bora elopement! 😛

sostobe: I totally get that wanted to go somewhere new! We were thinking of going to Fiji but I’ve already been there so we are a bit unsure.
craigslistgirl: Feb where I am is pretty warm but nothing special so it wouldn’t matter either way.
It’s hard because both of us have always wanted to go to Japan but we have also both imagined our honeymoon to be somewhere beachy and warm.

We got married the first weekend of March 2014 and went to the Dominican Republic, Sint Marteen, Saint Kitts, and Saint Thomas. I would recommend the Dominican Republic because the whales and wildlife are at a peak at that time of year. The whales migrate there and its amazing. Sint Marteen is beautiful and both the Dutch and French sides (Saint Martin) are amazing!

We’ve been to Belize in Feb./March and it was a wonderful country. It was, by far, the best vacation ever. There is so much to do and see and the people are so sweet. Oh, and beers are like $.50 and you get money back for turning in the glass bottles. I didn’t like Costa Rica as much. There was a lot to do and see in CR, but I felt like the people really wanted our money.

Congrats on setting your wedding date! Next best part besides planning the wedding is planning your honeymoon, fun! As you know, there are many options for honeymoon destinations. A few questions we always ask our honeymooners are:
1. What’s your estimated budget, this helps you or the Travel Agency with rough travel options.
2. If you’re open to any destination list your top 5 activities you’d like to do while on your honeymoon. For example you mentioned snowboarding, which we can suggest Hokkaido, Japan…AMAZING!
3. How much time do you have to travel? Remember you’re taking a good amount of time off that you might not have later on. So enjoy a destination that you might not have a chance to return to.
We have many more honeymoon suggestions, feel free to reach out directly we specialize in travel and event planning for brides and grooms.
Friendly reminder, it’s your honeymoon. No matter which destination it may be, always remember, it will an amazing experience with your husband during such a special time!
