I think the only way you can find out is by talking to your bridesmaids.

If it was me – and I can’t speak for them – I wouldn’t want to travel twice, but I also wouldn’t want to arrive in Brisbane a day or two early just for the sake of the hens’ night. So if I was an interstate BM, I’d say: have the party without me.

Or you could have it on the night before your wedding and not get drunk. At the risk of sounding rude, it seems to me you’re sort of trying to have your cake and eat it too: you want the big hens’ night AND the destination wedding. So perhaps part of the price you pay for having a DW, is that you can’t have the big get-hungover hens’ night.

@ksus07:  I could see having it the night before the day before the wedding in Brisbane. So if your wedding is on Saturday, have the bachelorette on Thursday night. That way they only have to pay for one extra night and you shouldn’t still be hung over on Saturday (well if you are then that’s your fault Wink).

I had a DW and had my hen’s 2 nights before the wedding. I think it really depends on how big a night you want to have. I had a fairly big night but I am lucky in that I don’t get hangovers unless I drink beer and tequila so I just avoided those two!

As a BM I would rather get into town a day or two before a DW anyways. Just with flight cancellations and the like I would prefer to have a buffer day or two. But that would depend on your BM’s leave availability and work.

I would talk to those that you plan to invite to see what works best.

What day are you getting hitched, would your Bridemaids be having to take time off anyway? If I had to take time off I might make mini holiday of it with my other half. So fitting in a party a coupe of days earlier may not be a problem…..perhaps rather than having a hen if you had a combined stag and hen so all your guest male and female could party together to kick off the wedding time it might be nice.

I’d have it earlier in Darwin, if I was a bridesmaid I’d prefer a trip to Darwin over one to Brisvegas! I think if you have it early enough, and on a wknd, two trips would be ok. You’ll need to discuss it with the girls though.

I don’t have any input, but I just wanted to say that I’ve never heard the term “hen’s night” before! I guess maybe because I’m in the US? I love it and think I will use it from now on! Laughing

@Ilovewine:  Really? I hate the term! The men’s night is called a “buck’s night” and I wish ours was called a “doe’s night”. Does are beautiful and graceful. Hens are fat, and they waddle and cluck.

@ksus07:  Fair point, every hens’ night I’ve been to has been like that, even when we’re not drinking!

I’ve been thinking a bit more, and I’m leaning towards Darwin. Here’s why: I had a look at the Qantas website, and to fly in for the weekend (fly in Sat midday, fly out Sunday) from Perth is about $470 return in March 2014 if she books early enough (that was Qantas, Virgin was only slightly cheaper and she’d need to take Friday off and Jetstar doesn’t seem to go to Darwin). The girls could stay with you so there’s no extra cost, whereas in Brisbane you’d all be paying for an extra night’s accomodation (and day off work). Also, perhaps you could help out with the girls’ air fare to make it more attractive for the two interstate girls; and FH’s sister might like to visit her family in Darwin anyway.

My brother had a dw wedding on a Sat and we all just went out & partied the Thursday before. They didn’t call it anything and we had a blast!
