So I need some help trying to figure out where to honeymoon and what sites to go on that will give us a good deal on flights, hotels, etc. from Canada.
At first, I figured we were going to save up our money and not have a honeymoon. But, Fiance made it clear yesterday that he’d like to go somewhere for 2 weeks. And bees, this is HUGE! With Fiance being a farmer, he doesn’t like to travel for more then week, no matter what time of the year it is.
I REALLY want to go back to Maui, but I want to rent a condo and car and not stay in all-incluslive there, so that is going to take some getting used to for Fiance and some money-saving. He knows I’ve wanted this since we started dating.
So we’re not really sure where to go at this point. I’m thinking somewhere hot, tropical, ocean all that jazz, probably all-inclusive, at a really good deal. He’s been to Mexico, but I haven’t.
Any suggestions of sites with great deals, or just places, would be greatly appreciated!!! 🙂

Do you have a budget? That would help us figure out what might be a good option for you.

Not sure about a budget yet. Obviously nothing way out there like $10k. Just looking for suggestions at this point and where fellow bees have gone or will be going and how much it was….

We went to the Dominican Republic and stayed in Punta Cana. It was amazing!! All inclusive resorts at a great price. We went for 10 days and with airfare (from PHX) I think we were just under $3,000.

@CherryWaves: Well, with no budget in mind, you can do an all inclusive or a cruise for definitely under $3000.

I have been to Cancun, Cuba (Cayo Coco and Varadero), Punta Cana and Puerto Plata, DR and Florida.
On our trip to Varadero, we went into Havana for a couple of days and that was one of my favorite vacations EVER. Havana is AMAZING.
If you can swing Hawaii, I would totally go for it though!
Other West coast options: Vegas, San Fran + Napa Valley, San Diego, LA, etc…
We are going to go to Quebec City right after our wedding for a mini-moon. My parents have a place in Clear Water, FL, so we are going to visit them for a couple of days in April and either go on a cruise from Tampa or rent a car and drive to Miami and the Keys.

i would check out jamaica! we went there on our honeymoon and it was fabulous, we stayed at Couples Swept Away in Negril. We chose jamaica because we were traveling in Feb (middle of winter) so we wanted to go far enough south that it was warm enough to sit outside without a jacket – we had traveled to the bahamas the previous march and it was a little bit chilly to be honest. We spent about 4900 for 7 days plus airfare for all inclusive BUT we booked late, our resort was booked full so our travel agent had to have a room released for us, and it was valentines week so i think that really boosted our costs and i think it can be done for cheaper than what we paid, and i think our price was fare for what we got. check out their website, the resort is beautiful and even though it was booked full i never felt like it was crowded. we never had to fight for beach chairs or wait for dinner. Also they include a lot of excursions like snorkling, scuba, glass bottom boats and so much more. We were also given free couples massages for being on our honeymoon!

Renting a condo/house is almost always a TON cheaper than an all-inclusive or hotel. Plus, you can make your own food to save money. All-inclusives charge a lot more for all the food/drinks/activities you partake in than an a la carte option (I am a highly independent traveler who has done both). I think all-inclusives are quite annoying compared to individual travel, quite frankly. I like exploring, and deciding where and when to do things as opposed ot having to stay on a specific property. You experience more culture going off property.

@crayfish: That is exactly why I want to rent a condo and a car if I go back to Maui. My parents have gone there 3 times now, and I’ve gone once with them, and I wouldn’t have done it any other way. It’s definitely the cheaper option over there. Fiance was totally put off at the beginning- if he’s going on a “tropical vacation” he wants to be served, not have to shop for food and then cook it, wants to be told where to go, etc. If I was way down south, then I’d probably want an all-inclusive hotel where I have no clue where to go, etc.
I was looking at condos in Maui last night.. boy, it was tugging at my heartstrings!
Thanks for the advice so far! Keep ’em coming!!
