Hi there. We are beginning to plan our honeymoon and are having the hardest time! I’m hoping some of you can help. Fist off we are NOT beach people and we will be honeymooning in the fall or winter (Oct-Jan) (and we don’t ski either lol!). I dream of a “once in a lifetime” trip. Usually when I travel I want to cram tons of sightseeing in each day but we want our honeymoon to be relaxing. We’d probably be better off not staying in a major city (Paris is out of the question according to FI) so we can relax more. Our budget is somewhat open – I’d like to spend as little as possible while still having the once in a lifetime feeling. We have, however, saved up airline miles forever so we can fly anywhere in the world and stay at nice hotels for over 2 weeks for free. So really, the opportunities are endless. Seriously, Africa is even on the table! Where have you gone that is interesting and would be good for relaxing, but is not a beach? Thanks!

A cruise to Italy? Oooo Disneyland? Haha

We don’t do beaches either, and my DH hates the summer heat. We went to Paris and loved it so I was going to suggest that until I saw that your FI vetoed that…hehe. What about somewhere else in Europe? A smaller town in France maybe? Or the English countryside?

Reykjavik, Sweden, Sri Lanka, Costa Rica (Jungle part), Santiago, Safari, Prague, Split, Sochi, Banff
My dream honeymoon was a trip Lisbon to Seville to Gibraltar to Marrakesh. But we couldn’t afford it, good for you for saving the airline miles 🙂

What about New Zealand? We are so far away it is definitely once in a lifetime! And a beautiful country too

My parents really liked Iceland. I’ve been to Australia as well and it’s pretty awesome.

@Loggers15: hi hi by the end of the weewere will be booking a twin city honeymoon in Capetown and Mauritius. Soooo excited! I think for a difference you can look at resorts in the Indian Ocean or an African Safari.

We did a self-drive tour of Ireland and it was AWESOME. We were there in December/January and weather was ok, but it would be better in October. For 10 days of flights, hotels, car rental, activities, food and drink, we spent around $3500.

The wine regions of both Argentina and Chile have amazing wine industries and beautiful resorts in their mountain regions. Their capitals are wonderful as well, although you said constant sight-seeing isn’t in the cards this trip. Buenos Aires is such a vibrant city with a lively nightlife, arts scene, and food that is out of this WORLD. Santiago is euro-style as well, with a really cool attitude. Neither is as sight-seeing-packed as Paris or Rome (thankfully). Your dates are spring/summer down there, so it’ll be warm and sunny!
Our honeymoon is going to be Lima, Peru (with a detour to Machu Picchu) and Santiago, Chile.

Well if you want a lot of relaxation rather than sight seeing, how about somewhere tropical? Fiji, Costa Rica, Aruba, Bali…something like that?

@Loggers15: We absolutely love Spain! We have a place in Comillas (small town in northern Spain) and try to go every year. You can drive through La Rioja (wine country!)- there are a ton of small quaint towns there (Briones, Laguardia, Logrono), Santiago de Compostela cathedral is amazing, Basque country- amazing food, you could drive to France or Portugal (we have done and enjoyed both)…Spain gets my vote!

Prague before Christmas is magic. We’re the same – not beach people, probably going to have a winter honeymoon, don’t like snow sports. I’m hoping he’ll agree to Europe!
