BlueNile!  They carry a very large selection of high quality stones and their settings are all 18k or platinum.  They have free shipping, no tax (score!), and free returns.  My fiance got mine there after being unable to beat the quality of diamonds they have, let alone the price from other jewelers!  Plus it comes in a pretty wood box (I’m such a sucker for the little things in life…)

My advice though would be go and try on some shapes and ring settings in a store first.  Yay, I’m so excited for you!!

Blue Nile is very reputable, knowledgeable, and has great customer service over the phone and via email. They event sent me a free ring-size measurer thing by mail ( I think you have to request it).  Our rings were purchased from here, and the quality exceeded our expectations.  And the best part is no annoying salesperson trying to sell you unnecessary items!  Our friends have also purchased pearl earrings and diamond necklaces and were quite happy.  They are a legitmitate company and I highly recc them.

How exciting!

If you’re into vintage, can I suggest http://www.artdecodiamonds.com?  This guy’s also in NYC’s diamond district, if you/your future fiance are around here.  This is where my ring is from (a beautiful Asscher cut w/ small baguettes, simple band), and I love that: a) the ring and setting are from the ’30s (wanted something definitely non-blood-diamond), and b) the owner donates a portion of each sale to breast cancer research (I think his wife died some years ago?).

Check out Pricescope.   There’s TONS of information and message boards.  This is probably the best place to get information about diamonds.  Hope it helps!

My FI went back and forth between Blue Nile and Union Diamond and went with Union Diamond. My ring appraised for $3K more than he paid! Uniondiamond.com.

My ring came from Blue Nile and I’m 100% happy with it.  I even ordered the matching wedding band.  I would definitely recommend them if you do end up buying your ring online 🙂

The best place to go online to learn about engagement rings and all things jewelry-related is http://www.pricescope.com. They’ll refer you to many excellent online vendors. Whiteflash.com is a favorite among the pricescope crowd.

I agree with the pricescope and bluenile comments.. another place to go is whiteflash.com – FI didn’t get my ring there but I’ve heard lots of good things about the place! I think at least one of the bees got her wedding band there too?

I would also recommend BlueNile. I got my engagement ring from there and it was appraised for $2,500 more than I paid. They also send you a coupon for 10% off your wedding ring when you purchase an engagement ring. I would buy from them again.

Defintely check out http://www.pricescope.com first.  I liked UnionDiamond.com, JamesAllen.com, and WhiteFlash.com the most.

I highly recommend Blue Nile. My FI got my ring there and I love it. I get so many compliments on it. It’s great because you can narrow your diamond search down to the color, cut & clarity that you are looking for. It will give you a good idea as to what kind of diamond you can get for your price range. They also have a lot of really nice settings. Good Luck!!

My Fi researched high and low and bought mine on shenoa, he was able to call them and haggle them to a lower price. he had it independently appraised (downtown LA) and it was worth 5x more than he bought it for… the appraisers all came up and asked him where he got such a great deal… check em out
