We’re going to San Francisco, up to Sonoma, and then down Hwy 1 to Big Sur. Can’t wait to get away from work!

@Woodstock:  Asheville is nice and driving the Blue Ridge Parkway can be done cheaply. Otherwise, Florida is relatively cheap as well. Charleston has had some good deals lately and while hotels in DC are expensive most of the museum’s are free and public transportation is great.

@Westwood:  Be sure to stop at Big Basin state park in Santa Cruz county. The Redwoods are AMAZING!

@Woodstock:  Speaking of historical cities, when I priced out Philadelphia for a trip it was also relatively cheap.  It should be an easy sell to your So, esepcially if they love Rocky because they can climb the Rocky steps.

Plus, who doesn’t also want a photo with the Love sculpture?

Monterey / Carmel (where we got married!) and then road trip up to SF / Napa / Redwoods. My favorite parts of Northern California.

October… maybe Zion or the Grand Canyon.  Or Vermont to peep the leaves!

New Orleans is a favorite of ours. October is also wonderful in Vermont — I lived there as a child and went to college there as well. If you’re wanting to go to the West Coast, my absolute favorite is Seattle.

@Woodstock:  Savannah, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach. They are all pretty close… and about 8 hours south of DC on 95. You could do a day or two in each and get a variety of experiences.
