Hi Guys! So I wrote a previous post about how we are now paying for our honeymoon-unsuspected? From the get-go, we had been planning on going to Greece, but rethinking now that we'd have to pay a bit more out of our own pockets. I'm posting the approximate trip cost (using sky miles).

We don't get a lot of vacation with our jobs, so we want to be sure to take a trip that's well worth the time off. Also, we are going about 2 months after our wedding, due to school schedules. So we'll have time to recuperate from wedding madness before going on the trip. I'd love your opinions!

@JamieAnnette: I voted Greek Isles...cuase well..thats what im doing in 4 months!! woot woot.

but sometimes i think we should have just done the cheaper more generic route...we could have gone way sooner then too (instead of a year after the weddng!)

I voted against greece casue of the greek culture.  You don't want guys hitting on you on your honeymoon and they will, I donno how Dominican Rep guys are though.  I heard Dominican Rep is lovely.

@Baileyh: What islands?! The package we were looking at is for Santorini & Mykonos. I've always wanted to go, and I'm so afraid if we opt to save money, I'll just end up disappointed that we didn't go with our original trip!

I vote for Greek Isle too, cause that's where I want to go but we only have a week so we're doing Maui.  Go to Santarino (sp), I heard it's so beautiful!

@JamieAnnette: we are going to England for one week and then flying to Athens, 2 days there and then we are just island hopping Mykonos, santornin etc. We dont have anything set in stone and are just going off the seat of our pants...it will be fun. Two weeks.

@Atalanta: go to mexio...its way worse.I was there with my boyfriend at the time and the bartender proposed to me and told me i could do better. He asked why i was here with "that loser" *yeesh*

@Ms. Sparkles: Maui is my favorite place on the face of the earth....have fun!

I am not a fan of all inclusives so by default I chose Greece, although I would love to go. Part of traveling for me is to explore all the great local food cuisines, small hole in the walls, markets etc!

If you can afford it, I say go for your dream trip (Greece). It's your honeymoon, and you've got the opportunity NOW to do this trip. Who knows if a "big trip in a couple years" will actually happen?

@lefeymw: Exactly. I don't like being limited in my dining options!

@stillme: That's what I'm afraid of... Both of my older sisters took smaller honeymoons & planned on doing a big trip for the 5 year anniv. Well once they had been married, the baby craze took over & a big trip just couldn't happen at that point with young kids.

No question, the Greek islands.  I've always thought it looks like paradise there.

@JamieAnnette: FYI, we're looking at Greece too, and if you want to go there and save money you can certainly do that - Santorini and Mykonos are the two most expensive islands (2-3x more than anywhere else), so definitely price out different options before you scratch the trip entirely. We are looking at Naxos/Paros, Crete, and some others that are way way less expensive (and touristy and crowded) than those two (which is just our personal preference). Obvi they are supposed to be great fun and gorgeous so I'm not knocking them, I mean for the sake of your question, if you are on a strict budget and still want to do the Isles, you have lots of options of ways to make it work. :) I just spent the last couple of nights reading up on different ideas on the lonely planet and tripadvisor forums - PM me if you want more details.

I plan to go someday. I made it to Israel and Italy, but didn't have time to hit up Greece as well.

I want to go to Greece so bad! But $3800 doesn't seem high enough...every time i price it out, it comes out to be around $7,000. Which is not in the budget for us right now. The DR is lovely; you just have to pick the right hotel.

@ejs4y8: We're going through a personal friend who gets AMAZING deals. It also doesn't include airfare, since we're using SkyMiles & it also doesn't include all meals (breakfasts are included, though).

Greece for sure! I'm from Turkey who's a neighbor of Greece. The Mediterranean and Agean are SO much more beautiful than the Caribbean and Mexico. Awesome water, beaches, food, culture...I wouldn't even worry about the getting hit on thing. Won't happen anymore than it would happen in any Latin country. Actually now that I think about it in all my travels I got hit on the most in Italy.

    Hands down, Greece.

Mexico is pretty easy to get to, as is the DR (which I personally didn't like btw), so definitely go for the trip that goes all out.

Greece!  We want to go to Rhodes (my husband has been, and he says it's amazing.)  We went to Curacao for our honeymoon - was a bit less, and we had a lot of fun.

While I would say Greece of course because its my favorite place in the world. 9 days is SOO Short. Flights there take over a day and then back. So basically you get a week there. That is not enough time in Greece at all. I would rather take a cheaper honeymoon and save up for a MINIMUM two week trip to Greece in the future. Especially if you are doing island hoping you will spend most time on the fairies and won't get to see much. Lots of traveling around is stressful and not so romantic. So for those reasons I choose Dominican Republic where you can have a romantic honeymoon and choose greek isles when you can afford a longer trip.

GREECE!  I wanted to go to Greece if we were leaving the states, but my FI didn't want to go to Europe.  I went once in college - it is SOOOO worth it!  Though I agree with some previous posters - I wouldn't want to island hop in a 9 day span.  Maybe three hotels, max, but that's my tastes.

I heard the Dominican Republic is amazing! But so is Greece, so I guess it depends on what you want to spend. Plus, if you take off work, are those paid days or not? The Greece trip could end up costing way more than you thought. I am biased because I like all-inclusive deals. :)

Greece is phenomenal, and $3800 is a steal. Do it.
