    Hi Hive,

I'm having a destination wedding in Cali and going out in the san fran with my friends. Where are some good places to hang out at night? Where do you recommend we get our hotel? Union station?

    Thanks in advance!

    AC

Downtown is good, but be sure where you are downtown. Union Square is a little touristy, but it's very central to everywhere you might want to go.

There are lots of places to go depending on what type of music you like, and also a lot of places have parties different nights. So, if you want to go to a club, I suggest you look to see what music is playing that night.

A lot of people go to Broadway at night to hang out. There are bars and strip clubs and restaurants. But, there are places all over the city. Keep in mind last call is 2 a.m., but a lot of places start shutting down before then/

Here are some clubs: Mejool, Temple, 1015 (which has afterhours), The EndUp (which has after hours and daytime parties... house music often), Apt. 21,  Slide Lounge (which has an actual slide in it)... um... Gravity which is in an area that people hang out at night. Union Street & Chestnut are not my scene, but places people go to hang and walk around at night... What else? Butterfly is another place...

You can PM me if you have any questions, but hopefully you can look at the websites for those places and that will help some. There really isn't like one central nightlife area.

Anna, depends on how old you are - i'm a little older so I dont really go to clubs anymore, i like the nice/chic bars.

XYZ bar (inside W Hotel, Howard St) is always good place, there's bar inside the new Intercontinental Hotel (Howard St),

Ruby Sky, Slide - more festive club style

North Beach is where a lot of young people go out.  There's a pretty large bar/club called Kel's.  There's a restaurant specializing in Garlic around the corner called The Stinking Rose and across the street from that is Steps of Rome.  I've had quite a few 2 am slices of pizza from there : ).

Now that I'm a bit older I prefer other areas.  I think we went out in the Mission last time?  (I don't live there, but have lots of friends that do.)

ok, so I just got back, and we had a great time. We didn't go to any clubs because, yes, we are a bit too old for that...mostly we just bar hopped and walked around...we stayed at a hotel near Union Square (Parc 55) that was perfect for our weekend stay.  We took a trolley ride that went for about 2 blocks (the cable went out at the Market & Powell location..bummer). No problem, we shared a cab with another stranded couple and took in the sights at Pier 39. We had a crab pot at Joe's Crab Shack (we LOVE seafood).  If you end up hanging out in the Castro (we spent our last night there), have a Pear Cider Beer w/ a shot of Passion Fruit Vodka @ Harvey's...so delish!!! Oh we also had sushi at a place on Taylor that was very good. It was about 10pmish and we were surprised to find a sushi place open that late. It looked like a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but when we walked it was kinda cool. They had a DJ spinning and everything. It was very cramped but comfy..I think it was called Ryoko's. There are lots of things to do. Have fun!!!

@AnnaCruz: - i'm excited for you to visit our little city, like all the other ladies mentioned, there are so many places to go and see, it just depends on what you and your friends want. here are a few of my favorites, though :)

hotels: union square is touristy, but it's also pretty central so in terms of nightlife it's a short walk or taxi fare away. it's also pretty safe - there are some hotels south of market and sometimes they tend to be next to sktchy blocks of the city. there are always a ton of deals on places like expedia and orbitz for hotels - there's a marriott, westin and hyatt there too.

cute places to sip and lounge: the ambassador, rye {it's across the street!}, sloane, rickhouse, rosewood, harlot

dance: apt 21, harlot and slide {top 40}, mezzanine, 1015 and ruby skye {for house and late nights} and milk and azul {for hip hop - not fancy but SO GOOD}.

PM me if you have any other questions...and have so much fun!!!
