I ordered a book online yesterday and immediately started wondering about other things I could possibly get online VS going into a store. I’m not really talking about clothing and shoes because I usually go into a store for those because it’s difficult for me to imagine what the outfit will look like on me just from a picture + I like to try things on first.
I’m wondering in terms of home decor, books, stationary, electronic accessories, etc? I’m dying to find a website with fast + free shipping. It’s the WORST when I see something I love (and happens to be WAY cheaper than an actual store) on a website and then realize that the shipping is twice the amount I’d be paying for the item itself. So frustrating. Finding an online store that ships within Canada (and not from China, for example) is ideal, as I wouldn’t have to worry about customs and the super long shipping times. I’ve been looking for an iPhone 6 case and unfortunately can’t find anything that will be here in less than 20 days!! I also really love stationary and am looking to find a pretty agenda – I fell in love with a Kate Spade agenda in Chapters but then realized it’s $36.
I personally don’t have any websites that I use regularly, but I have used Amazon for books and movies before as well as Forever 21 to get some of their jewlery (which I ended up being quite unhappy with because the items looked smaller online).
Do you shop online? Where do you go and what do you buy? I’ll add a poll for fun!

I buy all kinds of things, both wedding related and non wedding related.
Today I made an order with Elf Cosmetics [they are having a 50% off sale and I wanted to try a few of their products], as well as a Walmart order for my fiance, he ripped a pair of jeans at work yesterday so I ordered him a few new pairs. [We buy him the $9 walmart jeans because he goes through them quickly at work].
Usually I just order things that I know I like [bras after i’ve found one in the store I like]. If I order things that I’m not sure I’ll like, I make sure it’s from a store where I can easily return it.
I also order things like phone chargers, and smaller items from ebay because they are much cheaper for the same product. I just ordered 3 new phone chargers & aux cords [we lose them all the time] for .99 each, when they cost between $4-$7 in stores.
For example, here are things I’ve bought off ebay in the past month :
And we got FI’s tungsten ring on ebay, it was SO hard to find one he loved :

tattiibee: Fellow Canadian bee and yes I feel your pain when it comes to customs/shipping costs! When I was wedding planning earlier this year, my online shopping increased dramatically…for some items I had to bite the bullet on the shipping costs but honestly I shopped around a lot and managed to keep the costs down. Some items I had to have shipped to family in the US because the sellers just didn’t ship to Canada. Now I shop mostly on Amazon, Chapters and Etsy and many sites offer free shipping if you spend a certain amount which isn’t usually an issue for me:) Also last week I got my first package from online shopping on Sephora, let me tell you that it was like an early Christmas…….the products I ordered plus lots of freebie samples AND I cashed in beauty points for bonus goodies, best cardboard box I EVER received!!!
ETA: Also Stella + Dot, loved my purchases and the experience, products were exactly as on the site.

Fellow Canadian! I’m super lucky that SO drives through the US almost weekly so I use a US mailbox and he picks stuff up. So I shop for pretty much everything online first! So much money to be saved!
Even tho he’s away a night or two a week to do this… I don’t know what I’ll do if he stops US runs! lol

I’m addicted to online shopping, I hate going into stores now. I order anything and everything from Amazon with my Amazon Prime account which lets me buy most items with free two-day shipping and returns.
Clothes, shoes and jewelry from Nordstrom (free shipping and free returns and no minimum which I love). Makeup from Sephora. Cheaper and trendier clothes from Forever21, Kohls, JC Penny, American Eagle.
I find most stuff on etsy to be overpriced so I try to shy away from there.

another CDN bee!
we live in cottage country now, so it’s not always easy to just head to the mall after work anymore 🙁
that said, i do a LOT of shopping online, but mostly stores that ship from canada. i don’t buy much in the way of what you listed other than chapters has actually been amazing when i’ve ordered online (much faster than amazon!)
i have THE best luck buying from gap, banana, and lululemon. the only stores i’ve ever had an issue with are zumiez (they ship from the US and their customer service is the WORST!) and tory burch (only because it took FOREVER to get my purse b/c of customs i guess). other than that, i’ve been really lucky!
what kind of case are you looking for? i feel like a lot of clothing stores make their own cases now, so you could always check there! also, i had great luck on karmaloop too!

I buy a LOT from Amazon–movies, dvds and books and the few times I have a problem the matter was resolved quickly and ALWAYS in my favor within days.
I also buy a lot of clothes from Sundance and have never had a problem.

- Wedding: May 2015 - Walnut Hill Bed & Breakfast
I buy tons and tons and… everything. Online. Pretty much. I’m not in Canada though.
Amazon is the big one. I use their subscribe & save program for lots of stuff – cat food, tampons/pads, lotions, dish & laundry ditergent, tea, some snack items. Basically anything I reguarly buy. But I also buy shoes (usually only if i’ve tried them on before and know). Home Improvement type stuff. Batteries. Home supplies. Pretty much anything that I know I don’t need to see before I buy. I also use their app to scan barcodes and look stuff up while i’m at the store… so if it’s cheaper and I have time to wait for it, I’ll just order it online.
I also like Vitacost for health & grocery type things. Zappos for shoes… they have lots of other stuff too though.
I’ll also shop online at normal stores I usually visit like Macy’s, Old Navy, etc. Especially if I can return in store.

tattiibee: I hate buying clothes and shoes..unless there is a store nearby I can return them to. Inevitably something won’t fit the way it’s supposed to. BUT I LOVE buying home decor, jewelry, purses, etc. I recently discovered sites like Jane.com (I don’t know if they ship to Canada, though..). But there are tons of similar websites. It’s a bunch of etsy sellers offering one time deals on one item. I only look at home decor usually, but they have some pretty cute clothes..especially for kids!
Basically, I will buy anything as long as I can return it/exchange it in store. I hate returning through mail, especially if there is a fee. I agree with PPs Amazon Prime is the way to go!
Forgot to mention I have recently fallen in love with PayPal Credit. You can pay any purchase over $99 off in installments over 6 months no interest and usually get cash back. It really helps for furniture or jewelry!

DH and I buy everything on Amazon (we’re in the US). We’re Prime members, so for $80 a year we get “free” 2 day shipping on just about everything they sell, plus he gets access to free downloads of movies and tv shows and all (he’s the primary member. I don’t use that stuff anyway). But we really do buy just about everything on there. We get at least a delivery a week, our UPS guy is now a friend, lol. I like Prime though because everything has free returns, and they really are 100% hassle free. I bought a dive computer a few months ago on Prime, and it came in and had clearly been at least a display model, if not used, and it was advertised as new in box. I emailed them, printed a label, shipped it back the next day for free, and had a replacement (in perfect shape) within the week.
I don’t do much other online ordering. Sometimes I’ll order shirts for DH from Kohl’s cause it’s easier to get his size online, and we can return in store. I won’t order from anywhere I can’t return in store except Amazon, because it’s too much of a hassle.

I love amazon.com. It sells books and so much more! The free shipping is great, and you have amazon prime, you can get free 2 day shipping. I have bought clothes, including wedding dress, online, but only with the conditions that I can return them in person and that there is free shipping.

tattiibee: I do most of my shopping online. It helps to curb impulse buying and I often find a better selection of items online. Amazon is the first place I look when I’m in the market for something because you can read. reviews and compare prices. I also love Drugstore.com. You earn cash back with each purchase.

Wow I never realized that Amazon has that kind of shipping deal! That sounds amazing and like something I could definitely get behind. For some reason, when I search for things on Amazon, most are still more expensive than in store (the main deals I see are books). I also feel kind of silly because I didn’t even think of shopping the online US stores (Macy’s, etc.) so I will probably try that.
For Canadian bees who order from Amazon and live in a condo/know someone who does, how do you get your packages? I was just thinking about this yesterday and I’m not even sure if it’s being delivered by Canada post or UPS. And though I know our mailman has a key to our building, I’m not sure that UPS will. We live in a condo that requires a key to get through the front door and I indicated the apartment number so I wonder if they would set the package down next to our door, if we would have to sign for it, or go and pick it up ourselves regardless of whether we’re home or not. Last time I ordered off of Amazon, I lived in a house with my parents and I’m pretty sure the box was just left next to our door but I can’t remember.
lanibug: OMG I know exactly how you felt with the Sephora package. A couple of years ago I ordered a Sephora makeup palette and got to choose a bunch of freebies online as well. Best package EVER! I absolutely LOVE getting mail/packages soooo that’s another reason I wanted to try and shop online more LOL.
MrsMcQN: Well I was looking for a case that was a little nicer than just the ugly ones Apple store has right now for iPhone 6.
I found a couple on Etsy but I’m still trying to decide whether or not I’m going to be ordering them because they would be coming from China and will take a long time to get here.
I fell in love with the one that has a cat on it (don’t ask why LOL) and then found the pink case on ebay… I feel like it’s a really nice version of the clear case and everyone else seems to only have the hot pink ones, which I already have for my iPhone 4s so I want something different.
In addition to the shipping, I hate that if there was something wrong with the case, I’d have to ship it back and wait another 20 days for the new one to come. It just seems like such a hassle!!
I had a friend suggest I go to Pacific Mall first (if you’re a Canadian bee and live in Ontario, you’ll probably be familiar with it) which I will probably do. Speaking of which, I think if Pacific Mall ever delivered that would be too perfect.

tattiibee: I buy stuff online all the time! With Amazon Prime, almost everything I buy has free 2 day shipping. I use amazon for basically anything that I don’t need immediately or that is much cheaper online. I also get quite a bit of stuff off of eBay, especially if it is something that I want to buy used.
