So many great resorts in PDC—we’re having a hard time picking one and need some help. We’re narrowing it down from the Royal PDC, Grand Velas, Secrets Maroma, Valentin Imperial Maya and Viceroy Rivera Maya. Any suggestions???
We’d prefer to be relatively close to PDC centre—-within a 10 mins, a fantastic beach, and great food. We do want a little something special like ocean views, private plunge pool or swim up rooms or the like. We also want to be able to go off the resort for a night or 2 to explore 5th Avenue shopping, food, and nightlife without it being too far away from the resort. We’re not food snobs, but do expect something better than average buffet style -Americanized food. I know just about all of the resorts will have swim up bars, and a variety of cuisine themed restaurants—a little something special like a private dinner on a candlelit pier would be so romantic—or something unique like on site tequila tastings or cigar bar.
We’re going at the end of October/early Nov for about 7-9 days/nights.

aussiejenn: we’re going to PDC to Paradisus La Perla. I know this isn’t one of the resorts you mentioned above but it has fabulous reviews and we found an absolutely amazing deal on expedia for an upgraded suite and airfare. Thought I would throw it out there in case you hadn’t already explored that option.

aussiejenn: of those we’ve stayed at the Royal and the Valentin. I wouldn’t stay at the Royal again; for us, the only things going for it were location (right in PDC), and the rooms. We didn’t care for the lay out, the lack of shade at the pools a day how crowded they were, the beach, or the food, or the atmosphere (too young and lively for our liking). We much preferred the Valentin; the rooms and location aren’t as good but we much preferred the food and loved the layout and feel of the resort and the quiet/lazy river style pool.
I’ve heard Grand Velas is amazing; from the UK it’s crazy expensive so it’s never been an option for us, but that would be my pick. We also looked at Secrets Maroma; the beach at Maroma is stunning but we’re more pool people and the pools didn’t cut it for us. Another one worth a look is the El Dorado Maroma which like SMB is on Maroma beach.
Give me a shout if you have any questions/want any more info.

We went to Royal Hideaway in PDC for our honeymoon 2 years ago and it was amazing! 10 minute walk to all the shops. Took the local transit to Tulum. The resort was paraside. Amazing food, amazing beach, amazing staff. Everything was perfect there. Can’t wait to go back! Let me know if you have any questions about it!
