So I’m weighing the options between Riviera Maya Grand Palladium and Excellence Punta Cana before I present one to FI for honeymoon options. I’ve heard good things about both on the boards and while I’m leaning more toward The Excellence I know it also costs more. So is option #2 worth the extra?

We actually were going to go to the DR, but found out 2 weeks ago that there is a bad cholera outbreak…and with me being a nurse…that was just not my cup of tea! so we’re now looking into the Riviera Maya and have heard GREAT things about it 🙂 We found a 5 star resort that according to tripadvisor.com is a GREAT resort!! Its the Valentin Imperial Maya!

I went to the Excellence at Punta Cana. The food blew. Big time. Dh got food poisoning, as did EVERY OTHER couple we talked to. Everything else was lovely. But the food was, tops, “average”. I stuck to bread and fruit for breakfast, chips/guacamole and a salad for lunch, and took a few bites of whatever it was for dinner, then had cake/coffee at the coffeeshop. Otherwise everything was lovely. But the food was SUCH a downer. I had a coworker go for his 25th anniversary though and RAVE about it….even the food. So i don’t know WTF is up with that. We thought it was just awful. I really want to go to the Excellence in the Riviera Maya, though–i really liked how they ran their resort. Service was top notch for sure.

I agree with ejs4y8!! We also heard the food sucked there and that lots of people got sick…which was a real downer to hear…but others I also heard did okay with it. From many, I’ve been told that you can’t go wrong with Riviera Maya when it comes to food, scenery, relaxation, all the above, etc!

I was in Punta Cana in November. It wasn’t my favorite.
Have you considered Excellence Playa Mujeres?

Do not go to the Elegance. We vacationed there and both got horribly ill.
