I have Sure Cuts a lot but I don’t like it very much.  It’s not as easy to use as the cartilages and it doesn’t cut all the fonts that you have on your computer.  It only recognize some.  I haven’t spent money on any other ones.

I have Sure Cuts A Lot and I love it! I use it in conjunction with Adobe Illustrator though, so if you’re familiar with that it opens up A LOT of avenues for you.

If you get the Cricut Brand Design Studio, you will still need to purchase cartridges. You can make the designs on your computer without the cartridges, but when you go to print out the shape, you will need the cartridge that you made the design from. I have it and it works well for what I have wanted to do for now. I have heard good things about Sure Cuts A Lot, but I don’t have any experience with it.

@MandaMack: I have Sure Cuts A Lot and I LOVE IT 🙂 I think it is very easy to use and you can use all the fonts on your computer you just have to import any you download into the font folder to make sure your computer recognizes them

Thank you for the post, I splurged today as well and then went uh-oh, this is gonna get REAL pricey when I start buying cartridges…

I am leaning towards Sure cuts a lot, but still undecided…

I have heard a lot of really great things from sure cuts a lot.  Plus they have a ton of tutorials on youtube which will help a lot.  I am going to get that one if it helps.  I know with the design studio you have to own the cartridge to use it which to me defeats the purpose of having the program.  And I have never heard of makes the cut.  The only thing I do not know about with sure cuts a lot is that I have read that it voids the warranty on the circuit but I’m not sure how they would know you used the program?

I have the Make the Cut software.  It is super easy to use.  I literally watched one 30 second video on youtube, and I was good to go.  I have only cut one thing with a cartridge since I bought my cricut.  I love it.  I just google whatever I’m looking to cut and chose the “line drawing” option in the search restrictions.

With Make the Cut, you need to download the Inkblot software.  It’s a free version of Illustrator, I think.

The voiding the warranty thing is bogus.  There’s no way to tell that you’ve used other software with the Cricut.
