I need some help. My wedding date may change due to a possible change in venue. With the new venue I only have the option between April 21, 2012 or August 4, 2012, which kinda sucks for me. I don’t want to up my chances to get rained out and I sweat like Whitney Houston as soon as my body temp rises…so August is gonna be tough with outside pics. Both ceremony and reception will be inside, but travel will be required between the two locations.
Based on historical weather patterns:
April 21st has mostly rained/drizzled…but they say that’s good luck right? lol! The temp. is mild, kinda like today in the DMV (high 60s/low 70s). August 4th on the other hand has been consistently HOT. Temps are typically in the 90’s with an average of 70 something…and we all know that August humidity in DC will make it feel well over 100. The bright side is there’s a slim chance for rain.
If you were in my shoes, which date would you choose?

I would pick the earlier date. We kind of ended up in the same situation as you. We had a choice between 3 different weekends in may or the next available date was in october. We chose may. We wanted to get married sooner and counting down i’m so glad we chose may over october because i cut 5 months off my countdown.

Whew… outdoorsy stuff in the DC area in the middle of Summer? I think the guests, but especially YOU and the bridal party in less than the most comfortable clothes would get miserable! I love the summer, but I can’t imagine having to wear a heavy wedding dress in the heat and crazy mid-atlantic humidity!
For your sanity and the sanity of your guests, I vote April 🙂

So rain wouldn’t be of concern for you guys? It sucks that I have to make a choice between these to sucky days. lol!

I don’t even want to live in DC in August! April for sure. Or if you’re not happy with that either, maybe shop around for a different venue?
Also – outdoor pictures AFTER the wedding so you’re less worried about your dress and get a really cute umbrella – might be great pictures!

@HueysLuda: if the wedding is inside I would say April would be great.

April April April! The chance of rain isn’t as big of a deal since both parts of your event will be inside. But the hazy, hot, and humid summer here will make you melt for sure, even if you’re only outside for a few minutes.

I live in Georgia… I’m used to hot and muggy. I would choose August, especially since it’s sooner and your wedding is inside.

I would definitely choose April. Wedding dresses tend to have lots of layers. Layers + August heath and humidity = miserable for me. And for Mr. LK tux + heat and humidity = miserable

I voted for August since April tends be mixture of cool/rainy weather in the DC metro area. I am getting married in August in DC but will get married in the evening after 5pm. Typicially the evening time will be slightly cooler as you go towards the hours of sunset versus than mid-afternoon when the sun will be beaming on you. But both months are a great options.

If you’re definitely having your ceremony and reception indoors, then I would just pick April. My wedding date was originally April 28, 2012 but I quickly changed it because of the luck with weather in DC around April (and I plan to have an outdoor ceremony). I’m not sure if this year is a new trend but every Saturday it has rained, and every Sunday has been warm and Sunny, or cloudy but w/o rain. If you think you want to completely limit the possibility of rain I would go with August, but having it inside if its hot may be torture. Good luck! What venue are you getting married/having a reception at?

I’ve decided to go with August!!! I’ll be praying for comfortable temps, but if not I’ll deal.
@Miss Freeman: We are having a church ceremony and our reception will be held at Sequoia Restaurant.
