I have already been married once before and had a $2,500 dress. I look back now and I know I could of found something I liked just as much which would have been less expensive. Oh well you live and learn. Now that it is my turn to pay for the wedding I am looking at all kinds of designers. I really love Maggie Sottero. Just wondering who ya'll have chosen! And if you have pics post those too!
I went with Alfred Angelo. I love how reasonable the dresses are and they are designed to fit a real women's figure!
I have a Maggie Sottero gown and I LOVE IT! Her dresses really are the "Best Fit in the Business" like they say. They are also very well priced I paid $1020 for mine and that was on the high side for her.
I fell in love with a Pronovias dress, but it turned out to be $6,500. I said "NO!" to that dress and found almost a perfect dress that was exactly like it by Jasmine!!
I picked a Mori Lee. The dress is everything I want: very figure flattering, tea lenght, and best yet-affordable.
Alicherri1*** I love your maggie sottero, I also love that she has so many styles that have corset backs which cut down on alterations!!!
Missbliss*** That is awesome that you were able to find a look alike dress. I think these designers seem to forget that we all don't have a bank account as big as they do!
Sophia Tolli- amazing and inexpensive! I'm thrilled with my dress.
MishMish - I love that too... even though I said I didn't want a corset back, I now like it b/c it means if I lose (or gain) a little weight between my last fitting and the wedding, I'm still safe :)
I know that lots of brides in the hive have gone with Maggie dresses! They're beautiful and generally well priced! Check out the "show us your dress" thread for some great wedding gown photos!
Mine is an Alita Graham, i.e. the house line from Kleinfeld. And let's not even discuss the fact that I still can't believe I bought a dress in, as one of the Bees put it, the dark heart of the wedding industrial vortex. But I do love the dress, and it's very well-made.
Lazaro! I didnt even look at any lazaros at the several bridal shops I visited. I found mine on craigslist and Im in love with it! It still had tags it was just half the price! I originally wanted a Monique Lhuillier inspired dress, lots of lace and very romantic but the dress that I chose is so much more me! Its very vintage inspired and most importantly, I feel luxurious in it!
I snagged a Maggie! Spent $400 on Irina at a Clear the Racks sale. Thank goodness for corset backs because it means NO alterations! Whoopeeee!! Oh yeah and I'm 5 foot 11, haha. That helps ![]()
My dress was Lazaro it was almost $4000 and worth every dime.the fabric and beading was out of this world,it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.I wanted to sleep in it.I felt more beautiful then ever in my life.I would for sure, get a quality dress over a cheap one even if it was used!who cares,it would be new to you.
I'm planning on a Jim Hjelm gown. I won a free gown at the Atlanta Running of the Brides and hope I not only find this one, but also that it looks good on me!

I was really in love with Maggie Sottero but ended up going with Mia Solano. :)
You gals have had some lucky breaks with dresses, free, and a maggie for $400 what? Share your luck with me! I live in Colorado and got engaged two weeks ago and we are still trying to decide if we want to chance our luck with a winter wedding and all the snow or wait over a year to get married in the summer. all of my family will be flying in from Texas so I would hate to have a blizzard. YIKES
After searching up and down Texas(seriously - I went through salons both in Dallas and Houston), I found my dream dress. It's by Romona Keveza, and it's everything I could ever hope for in a dress. I can't wait to wear it down the aisle!
I am wearing Augusta Jones! Her dresses fit me well (lots of rouching!) & price was about what I was planning to spend...
I have a Melissa Sweet, and it arrived yesterday. I'm DYING to try it on!
London, what Melissa Sweet dress did you decide on? I'm have been drooling over the Cosimma for months!
Christos by Amsale... 75% off at a sample sale otherwise I could never dream of affording the $4400 price tag!
I bought a Lazaro gown as well - it truly was a work of art, and so many people told me it was the most beautiful gown they'd ever seen.
I bought a Mikella Bridal gown, it was about $1300 including a few extras. ($100 for 18" of buttons? Worth it, but still rediculous!)
@tThompson-which lazaro gown did you wear???? It sounds amazing! I love Lazaro.
I'm wearing Claire Pettibone "Rosa". It's from 2007 but it was totally me and I can't wait to wear it.
Judd Waddell -- I get to see it again at my first fitting this tuesday!
The fabulous Claire Pettibone designed my dress (virtual high five flamingred!). Mine is Kristene from the 2005 collection.
I'm wearing an absolutely beautiful Vera Wang -- I feel great in it but I kind of wish now that I'd delayed my dress shopping (the dress was on the first things I took care of) and chosen something cheaper, especially since so many brides in the hives have gotten such fantastic deals on their dresses! Oh well, it's a lesson learned =).
I just bought a beautiful Alfred Angelo dress at one of their stores in Allentown, PA for $800. I tried on a few amazing dresses there which all looked and felt great - great quality for affordable prices. I know they are not a high-end designer but I think they are definitely worth checking out if you do not want to spend thousands on a dress.
I found "the one" yesterday!! It has light beading and lace...so pretty.
Melissa Sweet! Thank goodness for sample sales because otherwise that wouldn't have happened in a million years!
I bought a La Sposa gown and I love her! I haven't seen anyone else with this designer. Any other La Sposa brides out there? This is my dress, the Farbala style:
