Dress #1 is certainly more unique. Don't get me wrong, I love the Kenneth Pool (he is designing my gown via Priscilla of Boston's Platinum line), but I feel like it looks so much like most of the dresses I have seen in weddings I have been to lately as well as the majority of celebrity wedding gowns. At the end of the day, what matters is that you love your dress/color scheme, so if you like #2 better, I say go #2. You could keep the same color combo, or use a brighter palate. It really depends on the location, the time of day and the time of year of your wedding.
#2. But I think you could use the same color scheme for both dresses. #1 I would definitely stick with the neutrals/pastels though.
I feel like number 1 already has some glam of it's own going own and it's romantic to boot...and I agree that number 2 is pretty typical of lots of dresses I've seen. It's easy to second guess your dress choice but really don't spend any more money on a dress then you already have, it's not worth it if you are happy with the first one...use that extra money towards something your guests will enjoy.
I like #2, but that's a matter of personal taste. It's the plainer of the two and I tend to go for simple clothing made of high quality fabrics. The 2nd dress is that to me. I agree with Dream and Erin about using either color scheme with the 2nd dress. The first dress limits you to typical wedding look of pastels and neutrals. If that's what you want though, go for it. I'm sure you'll look beautiful in either.
honestly, i think your original gown definitely has some factors that could be glammed up! its truly original and i haven't seen much of anything like it.....think about your accessories......you could do dramatic jewelry, very glitzy and sparkly. or a statement necklace. imagine how a large dramatic pendant would look right above that neckline.....
i believe you can still be glamorous with the lighter color scheme as well. its all in execution. having the hints of chocolate will definitely drive that home. i do agree that i would not do very, very bold colors with the 1st dress.
all this not to say that the 2nd dress is not beautiful (bc my own dress has very intricate beading all over the bodice, so i am indeed a fan!) but you dont own it. you own the first. Plus i agree with the BaghdadBride, if you are into unique and don't like being cookie cutter, Dress 1 is your winner. sooo many brides are picking the 2nd dress' silhouette nowadays.
I vote for the Kenneth Pool dress! I've been drooling over that dress for months.
I start shopping for my dress next month! :)
I think the first dress is very romantic and lends itself to a garden type of theme-- maybe because of the basketweave on the bodice? But it's still glam, especially with the brooch. If you look at Mrs. Lovebug's posts, you'll see that it's possible to pull off glam and romantic with a very soft pallette.
But if brights are calling to you, I think the second dress would be more appropriate.
Ok so I have been taking in all of the posts so far and you all suggest glaming up dress one. so what do you think....
1.) Birdcage Veil

2. Dramatic Jewelry
Any other suggestions????
I am huge Alvina Valenta fan and I love that dress! It is unique and original but still classically romantic. I love the weaving!
Definitely glam up dress 1. I love the birdcage veil you suggested. What about a great, sparkly bracelet?
It is a little pricey, but I bet you could find something similar for a better price elsewhere.
i think you should definitely keep #1 and glam it up. add the birdcage veil and jewelry. you could even add a pop of yellow to your romantic pink/cream/chocolate color scheme.
melodicsighs1 I was just going to see what you lovely ladies would think about some yellow. Maybe even instead of the brown.... any opinions?

Ok so I fell in love with my current dress and splured for me! I bought an Alvina Valenta gown from her 2006 fall collection. If you have ever seen an Alvina Valenta gown you will definately have an appreciation for grace and romance. Which originally was going to be my theme. Light pinks, creams, and a touch of chocolate.
Recently I have been thinking about my glaqm side and doing bright pink and green, or yellow, or anything really! OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS!!!! and found this dress that I could picture myself in with a birdcage veil and some feathers, rhinestones, and crystals!
So here is my dress that I already have....
