I originally picked the first a-line dress which is more simple because I thought I was going to be doing a destination wedding in a more rustic setting. Anyhow, fast forward and I am rethinking the dress, and considering the mermaid.
My friends think that mermaid dress doesn’t ook wedding-y enough. I do like the first one as it looks nicer in person than in the picture. However, I really really like the floral pattern and portrait neckline on the mermaid dress.
Also i’m about 5 feet tall and will wear bout 3-4 inch heels. I’m skinny and slightly curvy.
I need help deciding! 🙂

I love both! But I love the mermaid style more!

The first one by far. It almost looks more fit and flare than A-Line even. The necklines are very similar. I don’t like the seam across the knees on the mermaid as it seems to cut it in half. With you being only 5′ (even with 3″ heels) it will make you look shorter. Whereas the first dress has no seam down the front and will elongate you.
You can have the first dresses neckline altered and dipped down a little more like the 2nd one it seems with no problem and have them bring it in a little around the knees and you will have the best of both dresses!

I love the shape of the mermaid but I like the A-line dress better which is more fit and flare if you ask me. You could have alterations make the first dress into a mermaid like I did with mine. Mine was fit and flare and I had her turn it into a trumpet.

Interesting! That’s how the reps described it but I think you are right that it is more of a fit and flare! Makes sense..I was wondering why it didn’t come out more at the top…
Thanks for the ideas too— about changing the shape to be more of a mermaid. I hadn’t thought of that either.
Wedding dresses are confusing!

They’re both great but I think you need pictures of yourself in them because each body looks so different in mermaids and fit and flares!

Love the mermaid!! I’m also 5′ and I have a mermaid!

Tinatiny1: I wish I had a pic of me in a mermaid but I don’t sorry! But I think i’m trying to get a better idea of which looks more “wow” and “pretty” and wedding-y. Also, the other dress I am considering is this ball gown but… I’m quite reluctant only because I am worried it will make me look possibly overwhelmed. I tried on a few ball gowns in store which were nice. For this one though I think I may add some lace sleeves as I’m not a fan of strapless on myself.

I’m 5’0 and was absolutely swimming in all the material from the ballgowns I tried on. And I tried on several, just to confirm that they aren’t for me. 😛 I think your first two options are much better than a ballgown. I actually went with a mermaid, although it’s not as straight across on the bottom as the mermaid in your first pic, which I agree will cut you off.

Ms.Klaus: I’m petite and I have worn ball gowns and they looked fine but I think it depends on your body. They’re all so pretty! Not sure how you’re going to pick:-)

This is how the first dress looked like on. Kind of a bad pic. But it wasn’t fitted or anything yet and I’m just barefoot on the ground.

Ms.Klaus: I love the first one. The back detail on the skirt is beautiful!

Thanks all! I’ve decided to stick with my first choice! Afterall, I already own it.
