We are doing a family style sit down dinner. We have a great caterer in our area who makes delicious food. I am overwhelmed by her menu choices and will probably be polling very soon for opinions but first off I wanted to ask, If we are supplying only two entrees or meat choices…what should they be? Chicken is classic but seems a little boring and playing it too safe. Pork is risky because I know that there will be some jewish guests attending and I don’t want to make them have to choose the second entree option simply because they are obligated to. Not everyone eats fish and if they do they are persnickety about what types they eat. Beef seems like an all around winner so that will probably be one of our choices. What should we do in addition to beef keeping in mind that there will be no vegetarians at the wedding and there are only 50 guests total? Chicken, fish, pork, or lamb? Should I be less concerned about pleasing everyone because no matter what someone is not going to like the option right? I want to do something slightly traditional so that its a crowd pleaser but I also wouldn’t mind doing something more adventurous and wowing my guests. What did you all choose to serve at your weddings?

Although I chose for you to choose a more adventurous combo what really matters is what kind of chicken/beef/salmon dishes are we talking about. I usually despise chicken dishes but when it comes to Jerk Chicken for me it totally changes the game.
So I guess if you gave us a little more depth on exactly what kind of chicken/beef/salmon dishes it would help.

@NCPwedding: I agree ! The actual recipe makes a huge difference 🙂
OP, do you have the menu choices ?

I don’t like salmon so I would say beef and chicken. But beef and salmon are more adventurous.

Are there big price differences? We are doing chicken and salmon because it is about $2000 less than chicken or beef. Only one person has complained so far!

I’m a vegetarian, so I say none of these!

I’d say beef and salmon. It’s like a cheaper surf and turf?
idk I get sick of chicken at every wedding and I don’t eat red meat.

I said salmon and beef. Chicken is too boring!

I don’t eat fish, but for my guests I would do beef and salmon because many of them do enjoy salmon…! A fish and a protein is the traditional route to take in order to please everybody…!

I agree. Chicken usually is dry and dull but these ones sound interesting to me. The include:
-Chicken breast with goat cheese and herbs with a red bell pepper coulis
-Polenta crusted chicken piccata with lemon and capers
-chicken quarters braised slowly with Chardonnay, Leeks and Carrots
-Lemon chicken baked with brown sugar and citrus glaze
Enticing seafood includes:
-Whole salmon poached in white wine and served with sundried tomato basil aioli or mango papaya salsa
-Roasted Salmon filet with Moroccan spices
Beef dishes that excite me include:
-Balsamic peppered tri tip with Italian salsa verde
-Filet mignon topped with Cambazola and a “haystack” of frizzled leeks
-seared hanger steak with a chimichurri sauce
Hope this helps. Can yo see why I am overwhelmed. We live in Sonoma Wine Country where everyone takes food very seriously. This caterer has one numerous awards for her food at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair which is like the academy awards of the wine business.

After hearing the possible choices in detail, I chose beef and salmon – those ones sounded the best to me.

I think the salmon filet and filet mignon would be great choices. “Wedding chicken” is just never that exciting.

I chose beef and salmon because I’m honestly not a chicken fan. I find chicken boring and unless it’s prepped very specifically I just don’t like it. I do like beef and I do like salmon occasionaly (I’m not a huge fish eater). I wouldn’t choose the salmon if there was something else like beef, but if you served chicken and salmon I’d kind of be torn about which to choose because I don’t really like eating fish at weddings but I probably wouldn’t want the chicken.

Chicken and Beef! we had the options of chicken, beef, and salmon. so far no one has picked the fish(myFi is even from vancouver island). I think everyone is right chicken is kinda boring but it seems to me that at least here the average person wants chicken!
Hey you could just take a poll on your facebook! My cousin is getting married well exactly a month and she did!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Im sure whatever we choose will be delicious. I am beginning to lean more towards the beef and salmon since so many have strong feelings about chicken.
@KMacey: The facebook poll is a great idea.
