Hi all...I am about a month out from the wedding and am not sure what favor to give.  I am getting married in my home town, Tucson, at a spanish Hacienda style hotel.  Unfortunately this is a 3 hour plane ride away, and I can't get there until the day before the wedding, so I need something low maintainence.  It is a destination wedding for most guests, so I would like to be tied to the local Arizona atmosphere.

The ideas I have had are Mexican Wedding Cookies (which I would bake 2-3 days ahead and pack in my suitcase), cinammon-sugar pecans from Arizona in a cute bag, or a talavara tile, that I glue feet feet on to make a coaster.  I attached an example tile for those not familiar--the hotel is decorated with these in different designs.

I am worried that the cookies will be damaged in transport and be a crumbly mess--and they are messy to begin with.  The pecans I can buy there and put in cute packaging, and the tiles I can have shipped to my mom, so all I need to do is attach the feet and tie a ribbon around them.  But would you rather have something edible, or a tile coaster?

    Any other low-maintainence, inexpensive ideas?

I like the tile, especially since it matches the venue!

I think the tile is lovely and makes the most sense since you can get the project done in advance.

The pecans sound like the easiest solution. You can buy them there and just put them in packaging.

As beautiful as the tile is, my guess is that most people wouldn't use it because it wouldn't fit with their own decor. I get the feeling it would be wasted on many people.

I voted for the pecans for two reasons: one, because they're so yummy!, and two, because they're the easiest, and geusts don't pay too much attention to  favors anyway.

Three days before your wedding, the last thing you'll want to be doing is baking cookies!

I love Mexican Wedding cookies . . . so that's what I'd like to receive.  HOWEVER, they can get messy.  Nuts would be my second choice.  I'm not sure what I would do with a coaster.

Lots of people are allergic to nuts, so I'd say no to that one...  Can you just get Mexican wedding cookies when you get there?  Otherwise I'd say stick with the talavara tile.

honestly usually i'm a big fan of food for favors, but that tile is gorgeous and since it is a destination wedding, your family and friends will want a souvenir and i think it would be just perfect.

I think the nuts are a good idea.  The problem with coaster favors is what are you going to do with only one coaster?

Tiles - baking and transporting crumbly cookies will reduce you to tears the days before your wedding.

I voted for the Mexican Wedding Cakes because I LOVE LOVE LOVE them so much!! But I doubt they would be the easiest, more then likely the pecans would be.

I voted for the cookies, even the pecans sound so good. I'm a huge worry-er and have a 4 y.o cousin with nut allergies, i'd be afraid that the wrong person would get ahold of them.

I voted for the cookies as well. As great of an idea as the tiles sound, an edible favor may go over best. Can your mom or another local friend bake them to help you out, that way you don't have to worry about transporting them?

I love the tile.  They are so pretty.  I love coasters.  I agree with Mrs.DG, nuts are not the best idea because of allergies.

i picked the tile. originally i was thinking nuts, until i saw ms. dg's post. the mexican cookies sound like too much effort and i think people would love a souvenier.

I just voted for the tile coasters and now it's tied between the coasters and the pecans.  I think either way you'll be just fine.  I like the coasters because they match the venue and I think people would use them.  As long as your names/faces/wedding date isn't all over them.  But the pecan's sound yummy and I'm sure everyone will eat them.  Don't stress it!  Have a great wedding!!

I would go with either the pecans or the tile. I love Mexican Wedding Cookies but do you really want to be baking so close to the wedding? Check with the airline before you try to ship food in your luggage to see if they even allow it on board. Not to mention, they could easily be all broken by the time you land unless you have them well padded.

As far as nut allergies, both edibles contain nuts. While I do agree that generally it is better to be safe than sorry, how many of your guests actually have those allergies to even be concerned with?

As for the coaster, most people in real life will use it as a functional item or else put it on display and it doesn't matter if it doesn't go with the rest of their decor. The majority of people are not so picky that they can't find a use for it somehow since it is a functional item that is also decorative.

Your guests will be happy no matter what you choose.

i personally love the tile b/c i like those sorts of tiles but for traveling guests, pecans are the best. they can consume it at the airport / on flight back since no one serves food these days.

if you want something that will last, go with the Wedding Coasters.

However, I'm a glutton, so I would choose the food Tongue out

What on earth would you do with one coaster? Don't most people have a set?

    I vote pecans!

In my opion food favors are the best and most loved favors. Can I just put my two cents in? And this is just for me, you might want to have a sugar free or sugar alternative option avaiable. I am a diabetic so I know what its like to go to parties and such and not be included. (Nothing fancy, just a suggestion)

I voted for the cookies! I will always vote for food favors... the tile is fun, but I wouldn't know what to do with it. One coaster would look out of place to me & get stuffed in a drawer.

I love the tile idea, very unique to the southwest!  Out of curiosity, were would you be ordering your tiles from?  Plus I ate too many of that type of cookie as a kid and still can't look at them.

I purchased the tiles off of ebay from a seller with free shipping, and they were in great condition.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/SALE-100-Mexican-ceramic-4x4-talavera-tile-WHOLESALE_W0QQitemZ350179467425QQcmdZViewItemQQptZTile_Flooring?hash=item518852a0a1

They were a huge hit!! We had none left at the end of the night, and even the catering staff was showing them off to each other and said they were the nicest favor they had seen in a while.

We glued cork dots to the bottom to make them into coasters and wrapped the tiles in tissue paper to look like flowers, and they added a nice look to the table.

We were so happy we went with these.  Thanks everyone for voting!
