Ours were buffet cheapest, then sit down, then hors d’oeurve/cocktail reception (by a mile). By price : $30., $40., $70.  Weird, isn’t it?

It must be regional. Sit down meals in AZ are always really expensive. I’ve never seen a plated meal cheaper than a buffet here. The prices I’ve seen, buffet is about the same cost as heavy hors d’oeuvres.

Our lowest couple levels of the buffet were cheaper than sit-down (although if you went with the fanciest, most options possible buffet – you passed the sit-down price).

I don’t know where hors d’oeurve/cocktails fell at my venue becaues we never considered it so I never looked.

Our venue offers so many different options so it’s kind of hard to say. In the long run, I do think that the buffet is cheaper but we still went with the sit down.

Sit down is cheaper, but we get fewer options. Still not sure which one we will do, but most likely sit down dinner.

Ours is the same price for seated or buffet, but you can ‘upgrade’ to different food choices. We are doing family style because I’m to lazy to make a seating chart :), and that way people don’t have to stand in a buffet line

Plated meal (choice of chicken or beef): $16.79

    Buffet (1 meat choice): $17.99

    Buffet (2 meat choice): $19.99

Combo plated meal (both chicken and beef): $20.79

We are going with choice of chicken or beef plated meal.

With one caterer I looked at (fresh, local, organic) it was cheaper to sit down- because the actual food is so expensive!  It was $$ an hour a person for the buffet- and $$ for a meal, but I figured you would want the buffet for two hours because – what if people are slow to get food or something?  So in that case a sit down was less.

We were surprised to learn from our caterer that sit-down would be cheaper for us. We assumed a buffet would be a money saver, but with our food choices, the caterer said a buffer would be cheaper if we had 300 or 400 guests, but not for our 150 guests. With all of the added staff at carving stations, serving, etc, it actually ends up cheaper just to serve dinner at the tables.

Sit down was slightly cheaper at my venue.  The reasoning was they have to provide more food for a buffet than they do for a sitdown.

The buffet with four entrees at our venue is the same price as the most expensive sit down meal, so we decided to go with buffet and give everyone more options.

Well, my venue really isn’t a “venue” that provides anything. It’s just the large meeting room at my church. Soo…hiring an outside caterer, buffet is cheaper.

I didn’t realize sit down was ever cheaper. I guess it means less food, but then you have to have servers.

lol, what I’d like to see is a plated buffet. Everyone gets one plate and they have to go up and get it like a buffet 🙂 Ok that’s tacky but I make myself laugh.

    I’m going home!
