Hi Bees, I need your advice. I’ve scoured the internet looking for answers but maybe I just didn’t do a good enough job searching.
I bought my dress off the rack and I was just curious how this works. Do I take it in for alterations first and then get it cleaned afterwards? Or do I get my dress cleaned and then have alterations done. This isn’t suppose to be difficult. Why am I stressing about it?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated! 🙂

Alterations first. The dress is handled a lot during alterations and cleaning it afterwards will make sure it’s perfect for the wedding.

Alterations first, cleaning 2nd. No point in cleaning a dress that is just going to get “dirty” during alterations.

My bridal salon told me to get it altered then cleaned

@miss_leafheart: Alterations first, since you want to it cleaned after the seamstress has been touching it.

Definitely alterations. For the reasons mentioned above – the seamstress will be handling it and inevitably get some marks on it. Also, if you’re getting the dress taken in or shortened at all, there’s no point in cleaning the bits that are going to get removed anyway (like the hem for example).

Don’t the alterations people clean it for you when they’re done?

Alterations come first. People will be touching your dress while its altered and you will be taking it on and off (and walking around with it on) during that process. Clean it after all of that.
