It has been an agonizing and severely painful few days but after spending 9 hrs at the ER last night i finally passed a kidney stone. Inhave heard it compared to childbirth. However in childbirth you are afraid to kill the thing coming out.
for those who have experienced both, In your opinion which is worse?
i have never given birth, so incannot compare the two.

My mom says in her experience passing a kidney stone is far worse. And she had me without medication because i came too quickly.
grandma in-law says its a toss up, but shingles beats both

I have never passed a kidney stone but did break my ankle in 2 spots and I must say that was much worse than having a baby.

Miss-Joker: Haven’t given birth, but am currently waiting on a kidney stone to pass. It’s pretty excruciating. SO had to basically carry me into urgent care.

I haven’t had kidney stones, but I have had a baby. I had an epidural, so labor wasn’t really painful, it was just exhausting. I will say that before my epidural I was in SO much pain, and I can’t believe people are able to do it without medication. I should also note I was induced with pitocin.

I had quite easy labours. That’s not to say they weren’t painful but the difference between childbirth and other pain is that childbirth has a productive end to it. People I know who have had kidney stones say they’d rather give birth than tolerate another kidney stone. But everyone’s pain threshold is different, of course. However, I know that breaking every bone in my ankle is an experience I’d prefer not to repeat. Unlike childbirth which I did twice!

Kidney stone pain was much worse. Also there is no reward at the end.

I’ve only had kidney stones, but my mom and my sister have had both. Mom’s was without an epidural…
her opinion is that kidney stones are consistent pain while childbirth pain comes in waves. Mom and sis both agree that kidney stones are worse.
I voted kidney stones because I don’t think there’s any possible way something could be more painful than those…haha.

Ive had kidney stones which are miserable… No childbirth yet!

I had kidney stones while pregnant! I ended up having a c section so I would say the kidney stones are worse 🙂 But recovery from the section is worse than the procedure itself!

Really impossible to compare. Some births are very difficult, some very easy, most in between. Having 2 beautiful babies was worth much more pain than I actually experienced.

Sassygrn: ouch! Its funny because labor seems like a walk in the park now! (Which i know it is really different for everyone)
luna_c: 🙁 🙁 i know exactly how you are feeling right now :(. I hope it passes quickly for you!
Cory_loves_this_girl: a lot of people have rough labors with pitocin, but it sure does start labor!
Steampunkbride: breaking every bone! Was it crushed? That sounds horrible!! and to do it twice, that just sucks.
julies1949: when i read this it got me thinking… So i googled “kidney stone jewelry”. I guess there is a reward from some people? Ahh NOT ME! Lol
mdcmod: thats what my mom said too, you get breaks in labor. I did get a break in the kidney stone when it started ti mive freely again, but it got stuck… Again. It was terrible.
Barbiestylez: so miserable!!!!!
thanks for all of your imput! Its nice to know the pain was actually pretty significant and real

ann.reid.9277: yeah, and same with kidney stones. Some people pass them without ever even knowing they ever had one. In those cases absolutely childbirth is more painful, even at its easiest!

I answered for my best friend who has given birth twice and passed a kidney stone once – she says the kidney stone was worse. However, the kidney stone does have pretty immediate relief, while she had lots of pain recovering from labor.

Miss-Joker: I managed a spectacular accident while working (press photographer) which involved a long and ungraceful slide down a hill with my foot twisted under me which concluded with a collision with a hidden rock. But fortunately I only did it once. Unlike childbirth which I did twice.
My sympathies for you though. Everyone that’s had one tells me that kidney stones are the WORST!
