I was able to buy tablecloths off Craigslist for cheaper than renting them because a bride bought the wrong size and couldn’t return them. I intended to resell them, but ended up gifting them to my aunt who does a lot of entertaining and helped a ton with decorations for our wedding. And, this isn’t the same, but I borrowed all the silverware from my church and my dad’s church!

I think you can probably resell a lot of the things that you listed, but cleaning the votive candles of wax, in order to sell them, might be a pain in the rear.

MissHockey:  Great solution! Just make a point of throwing out the used tealights before packing up the votive holders, so the wax doesn’t spill.

MissHockey:  I love the silver plates! They would fit my wedding perfectly except I’m doing a buffet….otherwise I would have bought them from you after haha

MissHockey:  so pretty! When you go to sell, let me know how many you have & what you want for them

MissHockey:  I purchased and then re-sold centerpieces (candelabras) and table runners and other table linens in our wedding color.  I sold several other items after the wedding, but none that were rent-able.

MissHockey:  It seemed like a hassle at the time, photographing everything, listing, responding to inquiries, etc.  But it had to go one way or the other and after the honeymoon I wanted to make some money back so it was worth it!  The candelabras I was lucky enough to sell on Craigslist because shipping would have been prohibitively expensive.  Sold a few other misc. things on Craigslist, Ebay, and wedding forum sale pages.  The only things I didn’t sell were some glassware that I put in a garage sale and either sold or they ended up at Goodwill.

I purchased the table linens (like these, but eggplant-on-eggplant) and centerpiece fixin’s (cylinder vases from the Dollar Store).  There’s a ton of other things I that I intend to sell, but it’s been a year and I still haven’t gotten around to it. This is ridiculous, but I have to count everything, and I just didn’t want to deal with it after the wedding. Even if I don’t sell them, though, I won’t have spent much more than the rentals. If you buy your own stuff, make sure you have storage 🙂
