went in to buy my dress today with my mom. I was very leary she would try to swade me to change it but wanted to involve her. And guess what, she tried to persuade me. I ended up trying on way more dresses than I wanted to, even though I've tried on so many already. Anyways, I still love the first dress I tried on and at a measly $340 it's a perfect price. The one I fell in love with today, however is $300 off so it would be reduced to $700. But that's twice what I first liked.
I'm very worried about modesty and was liking the first one (the halter) because I could add a modesty panel that would be higher then a strapless dress. On the strapless dress we can add beautiful matching sleeves but I'm so frustrated because it's a gorgeous dress but the line only ends right above my chest and still adds the lovely "arm fat". My mom used such words for my first dress like "matronly" and that it made me chubby. (I'm pretty sure she's not ok with me being a size 10 even though I'm only 125 and 5'4"
So here's the pictures:
I love the first one on you. Makes your waist look super-tiny! You're not chubby--ignore your mom's negativity and go with the one you love.
I am probably around the same age as your mom. I don't think either one of them make you look matronly, but the second one does give off a younger feel and seems more princessy. The other one is more grown up.
Thank you so much! It's just been so hard to find a dress and then I go in today and she tries to change my mind. I like the fact the second one has such a big skirt but I'm worried that it's going to be too heavy after a while.
Honestly, the 2nd dress is not my style. I don't like the sleeves. I prefer dress # 1. I actually think, dress # 2 looks more "matronly."
And by Size 10, do you mean regular clothes size or bridal dress size? Either way, you are in no way fat. I'd be hard-pressed to find the arm fat you are referring to.
@baldor1: Size ten in "some" of the dresses I was trying on today. Some jeans I can wear sixes in and some in eights. But my mom was all losing her cool about the number I think today.
@SweetRose2011: My mother's the same way. I had to buy the 12-14-16 in the pattern I'm using and she blew the frig up, lol.
Okay, first of all you are not chubby! And I love your style, you love you some sparkle just like me! :) Both dresses are so much fun, like you are a ballerina, but I like the first one better for your body, it really flatters you.
@SweetRose2011: If you are referring to Bridal sizes then your Mom needs to be informed that Bridal sizes run small by at least two sizes. A bridal size 10 is actually a street size 6.
@baldor1: She has been informed. She's just ignorant and thinks I'm fat when I don't think I am. I'm a teeny chubsters but I like my chub. It's cute. :)
YOU..chubby??? No way!! I think dress #1 looks absolutely gorgeous on you! I wouldn't change the neckline at all either--I think it looks very 'bridal' as is!
Number 1 for me. I don't think you look chubby at all (far from it actually). Do what makes YOU happy :). Congrats!!!
I LOVE the first one and don't think you look chubby OR matronly! I think you look fabulous!
They're both beautiful, go with the one you love!
I feel your pain on the mom thing. I had a terrible experience with my mom. I'm 5'5" and 120. My mom has implied I am heavy, and always talks about how everyone else in the family has such a "small frame." Almost every dress I tried on she said was not flattering b/c it looks like I have no waist. I think my mom is sincerely disappointed that I don't look like the dress models. It really hurt my feelings.
Anyway, sorry for the threadjack, but my point is, stick with what YOU like, and don't let her get to you!
i think that they both look lovely. i don't see matron at all. i voted for the 1st one because i really liked the neckline and your waist was super tiny! :)
i prefer the second one. and what arm fat are you talking about? you look like you are average/below average weight for your height. so its a shame you think your chubby. put your weight and height in a BMI calculator and see what it tells you about your weight
@Angela83: No I know what you mean. My mom has always been overly critical like that.
I think the first is gorgeous on you. You don't look very comfortable in the 2nd (hands in front of your stomach in both pics).
@bells: Well I definately don't think I look "fat" and I don't feel like I really need to lose any weight for the wedding. I used to be thinner then thin so I've definately come to terms with gaining a few pounds. my FI would probably hate it if I lost them. :)
Oh my God, you look so gorgeous in the first one! I can't believe she said that looked matronly! I wonder what that word even means to her?! Go with the dream dress!!!
@CaraMia10: Yeah sorry about that, I think that it is a common pose for me to put my hands in front of my waist.
I chose the second one, you look super cute with your short hair and the tiara with that princess dress! I love how tiny the first dress makes you look, but I don't dig the halter- it starts to look like a tank top, like a wifebeater.
I think you look fabulous in both, but I would definitely go for #1, since that's the dress that YOU seem to love most. It's very, very flattering on you. I don't think you look chubby in the least! Your waist is tiny, and it flatters your figure very well without showing too much. I think if anything #2 is more "matronly".... although, I've never seen a "matronly" woman wear a ball gown haha... :)
And don't worry about being a 10 at ALL.... in fact, if I am recognizing the David's Bridal background, their dresses run small. Most, if not all, special occassion dresses do. Size is irrelevant in the wedding world. :)
@SweetRose2011: lol, understandable. But you still look much happier in the 1st one :) It's so flattering!
Neither are my personal cup of tea, but of the two I prefer #1 on you. I don't think you'd need a modesty panel though.. it looks beautiful on you as-is! And no way are you chubby!
I think #1 looks a hundred times better on you, frankly. Your waist looks so tiny! Not "matronly" by any stretch of the imagination. Plus you look happier in it. :-)
I think your face in the pics says it all. Go with the one you love. You are NOT fat, by the way, and look amazing in either one. You could always 'fluff' up the skirt of the first one with a bigger crinoline...
I'm exactly your size: 5'4" and 125 lbs and I was a size 8 or 10 in all the wedding gowns I tried on. Bridal sizing is rather odd; I wouldn't think anything of it. *shrug*
And for what it's worth, while I think both dresses are very pretty, you should go with what you are most comfortable in...ie, what you can happily boogey in all night long. :)
Chubby! Your mama is nuts, no offense. Your waist looks soooo tiny in the first dress. I really don't care for those sleeves on the second dress--they look really prissy to me. I think the first one is much more flattering and interesting overall, and definitely not matronly! I didn't realize a halter top was particularly matronly!
They both look nice but I actually like the second one more, but its a little hard to tell since you have your arm across you in the picture. It makes it seem like you were a bit more self conscious in it.
That odd, I'm about the same height and weight, but all the 10s I tried on at running of the bridge were huge.
If your chubby then I am afraid to know what I am! Don't worry about sizing in gowns- its not the "industry" standard sizing. Go with what you feel a million bucks in! What you feel radiates outward!
@pinkshoes: some of the dresses were bigger in the tens and some were smaller. It depended. It was so werid.
I refuse to believe that you are a size 10! That's what I wear at DB, and my waist is NOT that tiny. :P
Both look great on you, and I don't think the first one is matronly at all! Go with what you love.
@Amaryllis: Super serious! The first picture of the halter is actually an 8 until I told her I couldn't breath and then I tried the 10 on which is the second halter.
Weird huh?
Go with the one you love! Both dresses look good on you and no, the halter dress does NOT make you look matronly or chubby! I like the halter dress on you the best and it's less money so that would be the one I would pick!
they are both pretty, but the 1st is more figure flattering and you seem more comfortable...go with whatever one YOU like best and feel bridal in!
First of all, you are NOT CHUBBY. Not even a little!
I personally like dress #2 better, but it's clear that you like #1 more, just from the pictures. And you look great in both!
GO with #1!!!
