My fiance loves bacon and I’m vegetarian, so we chose food for our menu to reflect that: bacon meatloaf and vegetarian lasagna.
The other day my mom asked if I had specified that it was vegetarian lasagna, because she didn’t want people to pick that thinking it was real lasagna and then be disappointed. And then my brother was saying that a friend of ours might need a special meal because she doesn’t eat beef & fish….umm, there’s no beef or fish in vegetarian lasagna, why can’t she choose that?
So I was telling my fiance how silly everyone is being and that I think plenty of people will order the vegetarian lasagna, especially since at most events I go to the vegetarian option is the first to get eaten…usually by the carnivores! And he said that vegetarian lasagna is gross and no one will eat it, especially since bacon is so awesome. (he might be a little biased about this)
It’s not like I could (or would) change the meal choices, I just wanted to get an idea of how the choices might split between people. (and to see if I’m right, or if I’m crazy)

I don’t eat meat, so. . veggie lasagna

I’m not a vegetarian and I would definitely pick the vegetarian lasagna!

Hah, my husband and I are your opposites, he’s the vegetarian and I’m not. And even though I eat meat, I would still order the vegetarian lasagna instead of the bacon meatloaf! I don’t think you’re crazy at all. My sister had vegetarian lasagna at her wedding and half the people eating it didn’t even realize it wasn’t “real” lasagna.

What’s the difference between vegetarian lasagna and normal lasagna?

Does the vegetarian lasagna have ricotta in it?

I’m not a vegetarian, but love veggie lasagna so I would pick that.
I’m not a fan of meatloaf (except for the singer, haha).

I’m a pescatarian, so I don’t eat any meat besides fish.
Veggie lasagna all the way!

I love vegetarian lasagna, but I voted meatloaf. I didn’t have breakfast, so the thought of anything with bacon is making my mouth water right about now. . .

I hate meatloaf, so vegetarian lasagna sounds good to me!
@MissBoPeep: My mom makes lasagna with ground meat in it. I always thought this was ‘normal’ lasagna, but now you have me curious if other people do it differently? It’s always fun to see how recipes differ between families 🙂

Not a veggie, but there is no food I hate more than meatloaf. Yuck. I’d pick veg. lasagna.

@MissBoPeep: When I make veggie lasagna for my husband, I just replace the meat with vegetables and use a marinara sauce instead of a meat sauce. I mix grated zucchini into the sauce instead of ground beef and usually have layers of spinach in there with the ricotta cheese layer. I’ve had it with carrots before, but wasn’t the biggest fan. I’m curious as to why the OP’s brother thinks everyone will be grossed out, it’s really not THAT different from normal lasagna.

@HeyKaraoke: Not the person you asked, but I’ll answer anyway. Growing up in Europe, “normal” lasagna would have ground beef in it. When I came to the states, I was horrified to learn that around here, “normal” lasagna has ricotta in it. Yuck, yuck, yuck!
