Not really romantic but when we went and saw "The Break Up" together, the first part of them movie we were like - oh my god this is us. It is so me to freak out over not having 12 lemons, him taking ages to get in the shower, me 'wanting him to want to do the dishes' and for him think I've gone crazy!
Romance-wise maybe we are a bit like The Little Mermaid. Not that we have a mean octopus trying to break us up. But we have had to leave our own 'worlds' to be together. My ocean would be Boston and his land is Australia. And I have moved into his 'world' so we could be together.
That's so sweet..I love the Little Mermaid! Have to admit, never saw "The Breakup".
I'm fiery and passionate like Scarlett (less impetuous though) and he's rock solid and charming and from the North like Rhett (but loves it down here) and can always balance my fire with his calm demeanor. We're ying/yang of each other and it works perfectly.
Hmm, I would love to say we reflect some kind of romance novel or great chick-flick (like Pride and Prejudice!), but the truth is, we've kinda written our own love story. No groundbreaking first encounter, no tearfelt seperation, no fallout of any kind. Actually, our romance would never make it to the big screen because it would be classified as boring! But unlike the movies, its the kind of boring you never have worry about ending :)
We're somewhat funny. Like Scarlett and Rhett, we've run in same circles and may have bumped into one another but weren't ready for "that" meeting. But when we did? The sparks flew! And we both fell hard. Plus, as Scarlett was, I am an encore bride! He's also alot like Rhett because although he was born in the North, he has huge family ties to the deep south and has made it his home for over 20 years now.
We're a little bit like Harry and Sally - we love each others' weirdness and we were friends first... I quoted the "When you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible" line to him MULTIPLE times while waiting for him to propose. :) I'm not sure what other movies to use, because the men in romantic comedies are so obviously written from a woman's perspective.. at least compared to my husband. If anything, he's a bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies, except without the whole spy and ignoring our marriage thing. Just a man's man who doesn't get overly romantic but at the same time loves me very much.
Maybe "Just Friends" or some other movie where the guy likes the girl and she screws herself over and over by going for pretty much every idiot guy she comes across and doesn't see how incredible her best friend is.
Oops. Haha, I can't think of a good friends-into-lovers movie right now!
This is a great topic. I'm going to have to say we have the same "fight hard, love hard" relationship as Allie and Noah in The Notebook (minus the other finace of course). I love how they can go from a knock down, drag out fight to lovey dovey in a second. I haven't seen the movie in some years, so I may be wrong about their relationship, but that's what always stuck with me about them! Also, we always laugh because we are A LOT like Carrie and Doug in King of Queens. :)
Sweeney Todd... just kidding!
I love Johnny Depp and we quite frequently would like to kill each other. But that's only because we are exactly alike and are too stubborn. But, we do love each other and I cannot think of a movie because we don't really have a mushy relationship. As much as I would like to, it's just not us. So if there's a movie out there about people who were made for each other but get into little arguments all the time, that's us! :)
We're not like a movie, but we're totally like Chandler and Monica from Friends (I'm not as clean as her, but close).
We're definitely a mix of Harry and Sally from "When Harry Met Sally" and Chandler and Monica from Friends. Our relationship began as friendship for many years and finally blossomed into romance. I'm definitely as neurotic as Sally and Monica, but my FI isn't nearly as dorky as Chandler!
Very creative post!
@aloweha i'm totally with ya on "the break-up" in the beginning!! that is soooo us and how we can be!! we are also like Harry and Sally because we were friends before dating..
I swear though, in the days of my singledom before meeting him (and of course being in 30's), I felt very much like Bridget Jones (minus the smoking and snogging with the boss kind of stuff!). T is very much like my own Mark Darcy! Thoughtful, intellectually hot, and irrestible!
best movie lines OTHER than from Gone With the Wind?
From Bridget Jones' Diary:
Mark Darcy:"I don't think you're an idiot at all. I mean, there are elements of the ridiculous about you. Your mother's pretty interesting. And you really are an appallingly bad public speaker. And, um, you tend to let whatever's in your head come out of your mouth without much consideration of the consequences... But the thing is, um, what I'm trying to say, very inarticulately, is that, um, in fact, perhaps despite appearances, I like you, very much. Just as you are."
and this line about finally being with the good guy:
Bridget Jones: "Wait a minute... nice boys don't kiss like that.
Mark Darcy: Oh, yes, they f(dash dash dash..you get the picture) do!"
Ha! We are TOTALLY Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy. I am horribly bad at dieting and I am constantly putting my foot in my mouth. When I first met my fiance, I didn't like him at all! Like Bridget and Mark Darcy, I thought he was totally rude and weird. He even had a dorky "reindeer sweater" moment- I went with my best friend to his dorm room and he had hypoallergenic sheets that squeaked!
Hmm, I can't really think of a movie but we identify ourselves with Jon & Kate the most from Jon & Kate plus 8. I can be bossy, blunt, and want things clean like Kate, and FI is easy-going like Jon who rolls his eyes but does what Kate wants him to do.
@MsAnnalytical -- that is the best movie! hahaha
We are like the movie Hitch -- he's Albert Brenamen and I'm Allegra Cole (you know minus the whole looking like a model and has a billion dollars thing) ... Okay well mostly he's just a huge nerd and he thought he had to do all these things to impress me, but really I love him and his nerdy ways the best!
I LOVE Hitch too HumarockB! Freakin' hilarious!
I also love Bridget too..I felt like the girl who went to the dinner parties (as I've pretty been much the only single girl amongst a sea of married friends) with the "smug" married couples (although my friends were cool about it always since they knew why I was single). I also tend to speak my mind first and think secondly, and I detest dieting but never need to lose alot but could just deal with losing 15...forever! Plus the weirdest thing is T 's x is a lawyer..a witchy one too just like the woman in the movie who tries to land Mark.
And the thing I love so much about T, is when I was dieting and finally lost seven, he said "but sweetie, I love you the way you are now" which was the hugest lightbulb moment in the world to me because the line of "I love you just as you are" made me cry the first time I heard that in the movie...T had no clue when he said that, just knows that's one of my favorite movies.
One of my fav quotes from Gone W/The Wind is the part about Rhett smooching Scarlett. She tried to pretend to be so prim and proper but he had her number.
."No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how."--Rhett
That quote made me swoon over and over!
And after I divorced, I fell in love with this quote..
Scarlett: My life is over. Nothing will ever happen to me again.
Rhett:Did you ever think of marrying just for fun?
Scarlett: Marriage, fun? Fiddle-dee-dee. Fun for men you mean.
Rhett: I can't go all my life waiting to catch you between husbands!
And some more hilarity and great lines from the greatest movie (imho) ever:
Scarlett: Ooh, iff I just wasn't a lady, WHAT wouldn't I tell that varmint.
Scarlett: Cathleen, who's that?
Scarlett: That man looking at us and smiling. The nasty, dark one.
Cathleen Calvert: My dear, don't you know? That's Rhett Butler. He's from Charleston. He has the most terrible reputation.
Scarlett: He looks as if... as if he knows what I look like without my shimmy.
You can't get lines better than those!
We're more like Jack and Rose from Titanic. We always joke that we hope the ship doesn't sink!! LOL
When Harry Met Sally. Before we got together ourselves, we were friends helping each other with other relationships. And we'd crossed paths several times over the previous 15 years without any sparks or interest.
The Notebook's noah and Allie for sure. We put up with eachothers sh*t, but take eachothers sh*t - there's a BIG difference!
My FI and I are most like Twilight. Not because he's a vampire (although he does sneeze in direct sunlight), but because when we first starting dating he told me I shouldn't get too close because he didn't want to corrupt me. Well, a year and a half later (and uncorrupted I might add) we are engaged.
I love you, Man!
I kinda resemble the girl, personality wise also. We are supportive and quirky. I'm close to a lot of girls and he's a little distant with the guys, in a guy kind of way..not as soft as in the movie. We got engaged after 8 months of dating, like in the movie.

I'd say we're a combo of "Sleepless in Seattle" and "Gone With the Wind".
All the missed opportunities having been in same/similar places at same time before, and the intensity and passion of Scarlett and Rhett (hence my avatar!)
