Which outfit is better to wear as a wedding guest?

My fiancé’s friend is getting married this weekend and I am having a difficult time deciding what to wear. I am not very good at dressing up because I am a jeans and tee-shirt kind of girl.

So far I have 2 outfits picked out:

One is a skirt and dressy black tank top with a tan sweater (too offset all the black). It looks like one solid dress in the picture, but up close you can tell it's not.

The second outfit is a dress. My family likes the dress but I hate my legs. I've been told I have cankles so I have had a complex since high school. I feel like the dress is more dressy and fun.

Which outfit do you like better, and is it appropriate for a wedding guest to wear? Is black okay? I know white is a big no, no, but what about black? If you were at the wedding, would you notice anything unordinary about my legs or do they look fine?

Wear the black and white dress! It is adorable. The black and beige outfit is nice, but it doesn't seem very festive for a wedding.

Oh, and by the way, you have great legs. Ignore whatever doofus said you had cankels years ago. Rock the dress. :D

Wear the dress! It's cute and fun, perfect for a wedding celebration. And while it doesn't look like you have cankles, who cares if you do? Learn to love yourself and enjoy life!

The dress is perfect!  I agree that the other one is nice but not nearly as festive...and you look great in the dress--definitely no cankles.

Neither would stand out as weird at a wedding...you could wear either. Your legs look fine and I would personally pick the dress but you should wear whichever you are going to be more comfortable in so that you actually get up.

Your legs are fine and in no way does it look like you have cankles! Wear the black and white dress. The black outfit with the tan sweater doesn't really look dressy enough for a wedding.

the dress (first picture, second option (I think) you describe) looks great!  And whoever told you that you have cankles is crazy - you don't at all.  Black has become much more/completely acceptable for weddings, so feel comfortable in whichever you choose!

By unanimous vote we have decided that you do NOT have cankles!!!!

You will look great in either outfit, but it is the sweater that makes the second outfit look a bit dowdy. With a bolero jacket or a wrap it would be much more flattering.

I also think the first outfit looks better and is more appropriate. I have no idea what "cankles" are, but your legs and ankles look great.

@noritake22: You have cankles when there is no thinning of the leg between the calf and the ankle. BridetoBe101610 definitely does not have cankles. Here's a pic of real cankles.

ps this is from the web- not a personal pic

The first one. It's cute and fits you like a dream.

The second one--and I'm saying this gently--looks like what I wear when I teach my junior-high students. ALTHOUGH--the hemline of the dress suggests it's a dressier-dress, so I'm thinking it's probably the addition of the cardigan that's making me think that.

And you don't have cankles and while we're at it--quick! get a piece of paper and draw your best friend's ankles!...See? Does anyone notice anyone else's ankles that are not the people on What Not To Wear?

Ok first of all, YOU DO NOT HAVE CANKLES!!!! Whoever told you that is just jealous and/or insecure.

Second of all, PICK DRESS NUMBER ONE!!!! I don't think you realize it but you look sooo cute in it, and honestly, dress #2 does not suit you at all, seems like you're hiding something (which you are and shouldn't!) and yes, black is not appropriate for weddings. Sorry, I just think you need something more "happy" and fun.

The first dress is an absolute YES!  I'm not sure how much money you have to spend on accessories, but may I suggest getting a bold colour belt in lieu of the black, and maybe some bracelets to match?  Maybe a magenta, or a deep but bright shade of green?

Have fun at the wedding Laughing

P.S  You do NOT have cankles!

ps - I'm totally tempted to post some super cute dresses that you could rock in the future, but won't because that's not what you asked for :) but lemme know if you want any suggestions! :)

Kids are so cruel. I'm guessing some bratty kid told you that you have cankles. Well kids are mean. Also? They lie. That one lied to you for sure.

Wear the dress. It is fun and flrty and cute on you. The other oufit is a bit drab and a bit older than I think you are.
