So Fiance and I have been scaling back big time this year on trips and outings with our wedding in November. That said, we were presented with two opportunities for a long weekend. Pros and cons to both, but really can only afford one. Here’s the deal…
1. San Francisco. FI is being sent to a conference by his company for a week, and I could go with him for the weekend. All we’d need to pay for is my flight and things to do while I’m there. His hotel/flight will be covered by the company. I have a friend out there I haven’t seen in a while that I could spend time with when he has to work, which would be cool. I’ve never been to California and think it could be a really cool opportunity to go (partially) on his company’s dime, since we could otherwise never afford it. However, he will be working part of the time and we’d probably only be together for dinner and some night time activities.
2. Atlantic City. We only live a couple hours from there, so this one isn’t such a stretch. We scored free tickets to a concert on the beach, but hotels down there are pretty pricey (for a decent one). Nothing down there is cheap, really. A couple days in a hotel + meals and drinks will probably run us upwards of $500. However, we’ll be together the whole time, on our own schedule and we get to go to the concert. It’s a place we’ve been before (not together) and wouldn’t be as exciting as going to California, but more practical, for sure.
So bees, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Both trips would would take place in July or August, so comparable time frame.

BurlapnLace: San Fran! Mostly because I’ve been dying to go. You’ve been given a legit excuse to explore a new city, I say take it!

BurlapnLace: I vote for San Francisco! Especially if it’s a place you guys couldn’t normally afford to go! There is so much to see and do there… And u guys will be staying for free! Plus I don’t know what the weather in Atlantic city is like in august but I’m guessing super hot? The weather will be so nice in SF around that time! You can hang out w ur friend while ur Fiance is working and then spend the rest of the time together!

BurlapnLace: San Francisco. I’m from NJ and I always hated spending a lot of money on AC especially since it’s so cheap during the week. I might be biased though bc I don’t like AC.

BurlapnLace: I’ve never been to Atlantic City, but San Francisco is definitely a sight to see. You have all of the iconic landmarks, plus the beaches, plus Napa Valley nearby, plus tons of yummy places to eat…
What month are you taking your trip? I’ve heard July isn’t the best month to go, as the saying goes “The coldest winter I’ve ever had was a July in San Francisco” (or something along those lines ).

mdcmod: Last weekend in July for NJ or last weekend in August for SF.
Did I mention I hate to fly? LOL. I could take a xanax!

BurlapnLace: San Francisco! I’ve heard from several friends that it’s been the location of some of their best vacations. 🙂

BurlapnLace: San Fran and Northern Cali was one of the best trips I’ve ever take. Given the choice, I’d go to San Fran. You can do Atlantic City anytime since you are relatively local.

Add another for San Francisco! Though I’ve never been to AC, SF is just hands down one of the most awesome cities in the U.S. So much to do and see. I also got engaged there last fall, so for me it will always be one of my favorite places! 🙂
I’ve gone along on a conference trip my Fiance went to in Orlando, and we actually got to spend more time together than we thought we would- but if you have a friend to spend time with while he’s busy, even better! We stayed an extra day at the end of his conference to get the most out of the trip and the hotel was able to extend the conference rate for us, which was a great deal. If your schedules allow, maybe the two of you could add on a day to do all of the fun touristy things together.

San Francisco! I have never been to the west coast though and I’d love to go anywhere out there!

San Francisco is AH-MAZING! Of course, I’ve never been to Atlantic City so my opinion may be a tad biased, but seriously, please got to San Francisco!! You will not disappointed 🙂

BurlapnLace: San Fran. AC sucks. Maybe thats because I spent many weekends there partying in my early 20s, but ugh! Not comparable whatsoever to an awesome place like San Francisco.
