Looking at the bed, I sleep on the right side. I really don't know if there's a good reason why...I guess it's because it's the side I've ALWAYS slept on even before me & my husband lived together! :)
He gets mad at me sometimes because my side's better... ;)
I sleep on the right side as well because the left side is closer to the door, and FI gets up during the middle of the night a lot, and he also wakes up earlier in the morning than I do. I like my side :)
Yeah, the right side is totally the best side. I guess I always saw my parents in that arrangement growing up and it seems to work haha. So i sleep on the right!
Right side looking at the bed. That is because the bed is right against the wall because my FI likes to sleep against walls. The right side is the un-walled side and it also has the table with my water and everything. Plus I think to hang my arms over the edge.
When he is gone though, I sleep in the middle of the bed. I never slept on a "side" while I was living along. :-)
haha @Honeybear, I just realized my mom sleeps on the right side as well! Weird...
Left side of the bed...
Because that way, he can see the best side of my face when I'm sleeping! Haha!
That was the original reason, even if he doesn't know why I chose my side; however, he was comfortable with the right side from the start so we never had to "discuss" which side goes to who.
I sleep on the left side looking at the bed because I have to fall asleep laying on my right side which means he needs to sleep on the right side in order to cuddle me.
I sleep on the right side. My fiance sleeps on the left because it's closest to the wall, and I'm first to get up in the morning and don't want to have to crawl over him!
egb: Haha, that's funny! My good side is actually my left side, so my hubby def. doesn't get the best side of my face while we're sleeping!! Good choice :)
I sleep on the left side of the bed, although early in our relationship I slept on the right side. We switched because I like to sleep on my left side and he had to sleep on his right side because of shoulder pain and I didn't like that we faced away from each other all night.
At the moment I sleep on the left side of the bed, but it's not really the 'side' that matters, it's which ever side of the bed is furthest from the door/facing the wall that does it for me.
SuperKate: Yeah, we tend to look away from each other a lot of times & I don't like that either. We're moving into our home this week & we may switch it up just a little bit!
I sleep on the right side (looking at the bed too) the reason: FI likes to be closer to the door!
So if the door was in a different place I could be sleeping on the other side of the bed but what is REALLY weird is we have lived in 4 different houses and we have always slept on these sides - the door has always been closer to the left side of the bed!
But often in hotel rooms we switch so that he is closer to the door.
I don't know WHY he has to be closer to the door - he doesn't have a good answer for me but I just go with it!
He also always has to sit on my left in the movie theatre! He's a weirdo!
I sleep on the side of the bed that is furthest away from the door, which at the moment is the right side when looking at the bed. FI says its because that way he can protect me from robbers, lol. Its weird, because at my old house I slept on the left, and at his old place it was the left, but this house its the right! I also sleep on his side of the bed if he isn't home, and move back to my side when he comes to bed.
No particular "side", just the one closer to the door. I always get up in the middle of the night and FI never does. Also, our bed is against the wall on two sides and FI likes to be on the "wall side."
Woman sleep on the side of the bed that is farthest from the door. Should an invader enter they are dealing with the male first and thusly offering a level of protection to the female.
Vander: I sleep on the side closest to the door! I guess I'm weird for doing that?!?! I've always slept closest to the door now that I think about it!
@vandersails: I sleep closest to the door. It wouldn't really matter though if an invader came into the house. I have a glock right next to the bed and I know how to use it. The FI taught me well ;-)
Haha, sera that's hilarious!! I used to sleep with a gun right beside my bed in my old house. I think I was paranoid there though, because my dad had cameras in every corner outside the house so I would watch it & ONE movement would FREAK me out! I don't sleep with one now because I have my hubby, even though he's not closest to the door. He will protect me :)
We've each lived in several different places and we switch sides of the bed based on the layout of the room. I always want to be closer to the door/bathroom side of the room because i get up to pee a lot and i dont want to have to stumble around the bed to do it haha
@vander I've heard that too! Its an insinctive thing, caveman protecting his clan, lol.
@Lees: The FI is a black belt in Chi Tu Do, mixed martial arts of Brazilian Jujitsu, Tai Kwon Do, Another form of Jujitsu (I forget exactly which one), and Arnis Stick Fighting. I'm an advanced gold belt at the same academy and also train in Combatives (which is basically how to kill someone if you need to, but don't have a weapon). We go to the shooting range usually once a week and I am an avid golfer, so I usually have a club around somewhere. Oh yeah, we also have about 16 long war swords from various eras (some replicas, some authentic) which could do some damage. And we also have four cats, which might not sound like much, but if there is ANY sounds they can't identify they get tense and wake us up.
So, the short answer is I'm not worried about intruders. If anything, I feel sorry for them because if I don't know them, they aren't making it out of the house.
I sleep on his right side, no reason why its just how we have come to sleep.

I sleep on the right side because it is closer to the window. Not that I like the window, but FI loves absolute darkness when he's sleeping (like he'll cover the tiny lights on the DVD player, tv, etc) so he doesn't want to be by the window because it is slightly more light. I always used to sleep on the left side so it took a little time getting used to the switch!
@FutureKMM: My FI does that too! I can't figure out how the little red light on the DVD player would keep someone awake. It is just a tiny dot that you can't see at all with your eyes closed! It isn't like it emits tons of light or anything.
I sleep on the right side, which is actually not the good side! I would prefer the side nearest to the door so I wouldn't have to walk all the way around the bed, but I let FI have it because he gets up in the middle of the night and I never do! He also gets up before me on weekedays so it makes sense.
Ultimately, he can have the good side because he deserves it. I am such a bed hog and rock like sleeper, so it seems like the good side of the bed is the least I can do for him!
@serasvictoria - Haha! That's exactly what I tell him! But he swears he can tell the difference when it isn't covered - lol!
I sleep on the left side. I'm not sure how it happened, its just been that way since we've lived in this apartment. I guess maybe its because that's the side that has the extra clothing rack (which has all my clothes on it because I have too much to fit into all of our closets.....). And because that's where the outlets are, for my fan (I can't sleep without the sound of the fan, its so annoying). We tend to sleep really apart from each other, I just need my space!

don't know how it started, but it's always been that way, since my apt, since his place, etc.
at my apt, i was closer to the door, at his apt, i was closer to the door and he was against the wall.
in our house, he's closer to the door :)
yes to protect, but moreso he's closer to our bathroom and gets up earlier than i do for work, so it works out nice for my extra 20 min of beauty sleep.
I sleep on the right side mostly, but we rotate every now and then for weight distribution (makes the matress more comfortable when you flip it) lol
I sleep on the side furthest from the door because fiance wants it that way. He gets up first anyway, so it works out.
Looking at the bed I sleep on the left side. I just always have. I had a day bed when I was younger so that was the way I slept. We got in a small arguement when we first moved in together because he didnt want "sides" on the bed. No reason, and no reason why I like the left side more but I won. I got the left side (and its closest to the door). But I am always up in the middle of the night to give our dog water which is by the door too.
I sleep on the left side...though I slept on the right side when it was just me. We do it that way because he is left-handed and I am right-handed, which makes it easier to touch each other. If it weren't for that, I'd want to switch. I always sleep on his side anyway if he get up before me.

@jennifer_espos - We tend to sleep really far apart as well, mostly thanks to a cuddly beagle who likes to sleep between us.
But we really sleep more soundly on our own sides of the bed. He used to have a full bed at his apartment, which was VERY tight with the two of us and a dog. We got a queen a year ago and we sleep much better now.
When looking at the bed i sleep on the right. Fiance likes to be closer to the door, im usually up against the wall. Even though i tend to get up more during the night, he says he prefers being closer to the door so he can protect me...im not sure from what, but the idea is cute anyways :)
Left side, no idea why.
Come to think of it, maybe its because DH sleeps on the side nearest the door. It's nice to feel protected!
