I’m not personally an ornate ring person, but I just did a google image search for “oval antique ring” and am currently drooling over these amazing pieces (sorry the images are huge):

sorry I didn’t answer your question! I personally wouldn’t go for pave side stones since the stones can be lost so easily. but that’s just me.

I love the settings I posted above because I personally have a thing for bezel settings, and the design of these rings have such a beautiful vintage quality.

You might get more answers if you posted photo examples of the type of rings you’re looking for.  Alot of people (myself included) are very visual.

@GatsbyMama:  You click on the little picture that looks like a polaroid with a + symbol in the lower right-hand corner.

@GatsbyMama:  one really great way to narrow down your options is to visit different jewelry stores and try on any of their oval rings (including the non-diamond ones). even if you don’t intend on buying from that store, the salesperson does not need to know that and it will give you a good idea of what you like/don’t like when seen on your own hand.

I picked plain solitaire, which I love, but if I had an oval I would pick a classic three stone, probably with tapered baguettes.

You could try a tulip setting, they look so good on Marquis rings, so they’d probably look good on oval too.
