We have 3 weddings to attend in the next 2 months. I have been dress shopping for three days now and today I finally found a few that I kind of like. I’m at the point where I really need to just pick one because the first wedding is this Saturday so of course I turn to you bees to tell me what to do. If you don’t like any of them please be honest. I still have time to go shopping after work tomorrow but I’m not sure what other stores to check out! Are these too casual? Are they proper wedding attire (I haven’t been an actual guest in years)? Are they too casual or too formal (these weddings all seem to be traditional- but none gave a dress code)? Any help, advice, feedback is greatly appreciated!
I worry that this green one is too casual :/
I like this one but it’s a bit big in the waist. I was thinking I could get a belt for the first wedding and have it altered for the next two.
I’m worried again that this is too casual?
I do have a favorite (black with white polka dots) but it doesn’t fit correctly and they don’t carry a smaller size. I’m also curious to see what you bees think. Do you like any of them? Should I keep looking? If you can’t tell I’m not too great with fashion 🙂

I think the purple (#4) is definitely the most classic.

Third one is too casual. Green is fine for a summer wedding of ordinary formality (and during the day). Either of the black ones will suit pretty much any situation, so I’d go with one of those. Polka dots more summery, and a little less formal. Bottom one a bit more evening, but still perfectly viable for the day time. I’d probably go with the bottom one.

I love #2. #4 is pretty, though…just typical. I also like #3, but it could be too casual if the wedding is at night. I don’t like #3 at all.

I think they all seem fairly casual. I think you should do some online shopping. I would suggest popsugar.com. You can search by dress type, brand, and price point. It will return a results to you from boatloads of merchants. You should search for a peplum midi dress. I think that would look flattering on your figure.

@MrsBeck: They all look too casual in my opinion. I would go with the dressiest (4)

I got my graduation dress at TJ Maxx. I love that store. But I also frequent Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack.

Of the four, I’d say the last one is the most appropriate but it is still a bit on the casual side depending on the time of the wedding. The other black one could work depending on the wedding’s start time. The other two are too casual to me.

I like #2 most, but I think they can all be dressed up!

@Duncan: thanks for the explanations! I think I’m going to keep looking because I don’t like the fit of the last one but I’m going to keep your advice about these dresses in mind! Is any kind of print typically less formal? Also, are dark colors considered more formal than lighter colors? As you can tell, I’m pretty clueless about this!
@BlushingBrideNYC: I wish I wasn’t such a procrastinator :/ I don’t have time to shop online anymore. I’ve never tried on a peplum dress because I was worried that it would make my hips look even larger. I’ll give that shape a try today though! Thanks!
@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina: thanks for the feedback. I really only own casual cotton summer dresses so that last one seemed super formal to me. Like I said earlier, I’m really clueless about this stuff! Is the fabric of the last one too casual? Should I find a longer dress?

@MrsBeck: Solid is more formal, in general. The particular print is quite informal – a floral or something more traditional would be more formal, in general. The rules are not quite as defined for women’s clothing as for men’s.

I like #1 but with a different belt then I like #4.

Green or Purple. I personally like the green one because I like the color.

@MrsBeck: I would go with the green or purple. They both are stunning on you and the green is very summery, fun and wedding appropriate and the purple is just a classic elegant nightime event attire.
The multi color seems too casual to me and the polka dot one doesnt fit you as well and seems a bit more “business attire, business casual” than wedding event to me.
Great choices though, you would be fine if you showed up to a wedding wearing any of them – I just like the green and purple most on you. 🙂

I think any of these dresses could be dressed up with the exception of the first one. I like that one, but it’s really casual. I disagree that the third one is too casual. If you pair it with a belt and heels, it will look fine. If you’re not happy, I’d reccommend looking at express. They have a lot of dresses in all different styles.
