Stephanie8904 :  I would go with what’s cheaper and easier to handle first if I was living in it.  If not, I would go with the larger tougher project to handle first because I wasn’t living in it.

I always vote kitchen because to me the kitchen is the heart of the home!

Kitchen! We’re having ours done this month after living in our 1920’s colonial for 2 years and I can’t wait! To me, its more of a living space and it’s more important to me than the bathrooms.

I would go with kitchen because generally you spend more time there so I think it would be more impactful.

happyhappywife :  Exact same situation here. Craftsmen style condo 1800 sqft so the size of a house. Built in 1912. Functional kitchen with new appliances but need new countertops and new cabinet doors. One bathroom is nice but not quit what I want. The other bathroom is a pink toilet, pink tub, pink sink and pink tub. Did you have to redo your trim? How did you do it?

This is such a tough decision and I would choose to try to swing both at the same time.  But if I HAD to choose I would do the Kitchen.  A remodel of the Kitchen could change the whole feel of you actual living space where you spend the most time.  It also sounds like the bathroom has been updated recently, even if you do not like the cosmetics it is still in good shape!  If a remodel of the bathroom is gonna happend eventually look into cheap hacks to change colors/style (such as floor paint/tile color change) and do that until you are ready to gut it.

Stephanie8904 :  It depends. We HAD to do our upstairs bathroom first because there was no counterspace and the mirror was tiny. A girl needs room to get ready! But we just had the conversation last night whether to do the master bathroom or kitchen first and we decided on the kitchen because it is the first thing you see when you walk in our house and it is probably the most used room in the house because my fiance loves to cook. If your bathroom is functional then I would say kitchen for sure.

first it would depend on the budget– if you have “just enough” to do the kitchen (kitchens are usually more expensive than  bathrooms) then I would do the bathroom-renovations go over budget very easily.  I would hate to get in a situation where something was uncovered and we couldn’t finish the way I wanted becuase of money.

If money isn’t an issue, then I would do the kitchen first.  We have peoplel over all the time and get more use out of our kitchen.  Either way, good luck!

siobhan00 :  I love craftsman homes! Pink bathrooms crack me up. Sadly, previous owners started to halfassedly renovate our bathroom but left it unfinished, so we have a cracked old vanity, and some sort of thin countertop material on the walls of our shower (!??!). We replaced our toilet before moving in because I just couldn’t deal. I wanted to leave the beautiful wood trim but much of it had been removed and replaced so we just painted the rest white to match.I’m still not sure aesthetically what we’ll do for the bathroom. Trying to capture the character we have left though!

If it is just a cosmetic remodel, I would choose the kitchen.  That is where you would spend more time and every house guest will see it.

I agree about the kitchen. Most people spend more time there, and often guests will have a cup of coffee in the kitchen. A kitchen, IMO, is the heart of the home, whether you cook there or not, and most modern kitchens are open and visible from much of the house or visible upon entry into the home. We recently redid our kitchen, and while I want to do our bathroom next, I am not sorry at all we went with the kitchen first.

But hey, if you’re a long soaks in the tub kinda gal do that.

Stephanie8904 :  Seeing that there was already some work done in the bathroom, I would go for the kitchen remodel first.  It sounds like there’s nothing really wrong with the bathroom – it’s functional, it’s just not your style.

Are you planning on a complete kitchen remodel (where you’re moving plumbing and other things) or just an update?  Remodels are notorious for going over budget but I would still do the kitchen first as that’s going to get the most use.

Stephanie8904 :  bathrrom. After a long day from stress you can’t beat chiilibg out in the bath with a nicely decorated room.
