I was so excited when I found my cake topper online! Its called the "Hip Bride and Groom" from Very Different Cakes. They make some really fun ones!

Make it- my FI and I went to Michaels bought wooden letter and spray painted them silver and covered them with rhinestones- they looked as good as any letter bought online but at a fraction of the cost. We affized them to the cake with hidden popsical sticks.
I know you said you wanted something whimsical- you'd be surprised by what you can find at a craft store and what you can do with a little paint, glitter etc.
Awesome-thanks everyone for your suggestions! I think making my own would be cheaper and would be exactly what I want.

ask your family! We're using my grandparents cake topper from the 40's... I can't wait to see how it looks
We had a glass cake topper made by a local artist. Our nicknames are Fox (me) and the Hound (him), hence my Bee name. I loved the way it turned out and now we have a beautiful keepsake on display next to a wedding picture. It wasn't cheap but around the same price as some of the other ones we were looking at. If you want I can try to find the artist's website. Here's a picture of how it turned out:
I really wanted a cake topper that was going to reflect something about us. My fiance is a HUGE Lego fan - and thus I have become too. I wrote Lego and they sent us a Lego bride and groom as a wedding gift! It comes with a stand and flowers and lego champagne glasses! They don't sell them on the site and I learned they were quite expensive when I was looking to buy one. It was very sweet of them. We are having cupcakes so the bride will be on one and the groom on the other.
ANother cute bird cake topper. Much less than Ann Wood, but still too much for me....

Check out Bellacroft. They have some really fun ones like the Weddingstar Cell Phone Fanatic, the Kissing Couple, the Bride dragging the Groom across the cake, and the Groom caught on a fishing hook by the Bride. Actually, there are several more comical cake toppers.
I too got Lego to send me the lego cake topper, but when I saw these on etsy, I had to have one. The seller's name on etsy is oilpainta, she is awesome!
