Hi there!

I’m getting married there Sept 2010! We fell in love with the place once we started driving down the road with the tall pines on either side. πŸ™‚

I’ve written to some other brides that were references at WP. One did say to bring extra s’more stuff because they only give you a little basket. I really want to have a photo booth but not sure due to budget. Hopefully I’ll be able to find someone for less than 1600.

What kind of blankets are you giving out? I was looking into finding some fleece ones that could be embroidered but not sure about the cost. Most of our guests will be from out of town since we’re from NY/NJ.

I really liked what this bride did with decorating the reception area. She hired Blooming Blossoms. I’m not sure if they’re expensive or not. I haven’t looked into any florist yet.

Do you have any recommendations on venders? florist, band, cake, ministers?

Glad to see someone else just as excited to get married at WP!

Thanks for all the great info!!

We’re doing the exclusivity as well. Did you find it weird about the whole prices are subject to change bit in the contract? Have you had any problems since? We’re going through 2 fiscal years and are worried that they’re going to jack up the prices. Are you having an open bar? We want to but it’s really difficult to estimate a cost since the prices are not fixed.

I’m trying to go with an earthy theme. I ideally would love to have potted plants as our centerpieces so the flowers won’t be cut and die in a couple days.  I also love the idea of having a flower petal aisle runner, but am not sure how much that’ll cost. I heard that freeze dried rose petals are cheaper but I would be up for any kinda petal. I haven’t figured out how I want the table where the place cards are. I thought about trying to round up some pine cones and attach the names to them. Also, I’m not crazy about how you can see all the bars under the awning. I’ve been thinking about buying some cloth to hide it to look like a canopy. And maybe some paper lanterns of some sort to bring some color under there. What are your thoughts about decorating?

Any advise on when I should be contacting the cake maker and florist?

I love your camp theme it’s too cute! What’s a luminary bag? Do they look like paper bags with a candle in it? I think i’ve seen them in ads. Are you given anything out as favors or just the welcome bags and blankets? I was thinking about giving a small tree sapling to plant or just to donate money to have trees planted.

I was a little leery about not being able to taste the food prior to booking but I’ve heard good things from other brides. Any favorite apps or food you’ll be having served?  Have you had any problems with the management?

Let see so far, I bought DIY invites on clearance at Michael’s. I bought the dress on a whim! I was at a sample sale for Pronovias and 2 other brides were trying to rip the dress out of my hands. It wasn’t the dress I pictured myself in but it’s a beautiful dress and now I can’t find a dress that I like better. So it all worked out! πŸ™‚ I want my colors to be purple and fushia-ish. I haven’t quite figured out the pinky/red color. I really liked Jenny Yoo’s bridesmaid dresses but I’m not sure if they’ll be too expensive for my BM. Although, I think they’ll be re-wearable. We’ve narrowed down our photographer. He did my FI sister’s wedding. We’re going to be flying him in from St. Louis.  http://www.stlphotography.com/. I really liked these custom cake topper on esty:  http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5327114

Are you going to be having lawn games going on for the weekend? I was thinking of making signs for like bocce ball, horseshoes, and etc.

I just love Whispering Pines, and I am sure your guests will too! I went to summer camp there as a kid but didn’t look into the weding option, will your guests be staying in the cabins and is the reception hall the one near the cabins with an upstairs and a downstairs? I remember the "dining room" being upstairs with several smaller rooms and one large meeting room downstairs. I know the place is huge but I can’t think of any other building. Thanks for settling my curiosity. Do the let you use the Canoes on the lake? That could be a fun evening activity as the sun is getting ready to set.

Both of your ideas sound so awesome!  I feel like I was eavesdropping a bit, sorry!

About fleece blankets – I was looking for these too b/c the church we’re using doesn’t have heat or electricity, and it gets cold here in October!  There were some at Walmart for like $5 each.  They weren’t the thickest, plushest blankets of course, but they did the trick.  Just passing the word along….

@slicey19- the guests will be staying in the cabins. The reception hall i believe only has an upstairs where the bridal suite is. It’s the building with the deck over looking the lake. I think the one you were thinking about is the main check in area where there is a downstairs with meeting rooms. They said we are welcome to use all equipment: bocce, horseshoes, canoes, etc.

@grey56 – thanks for the tip! I’m up in the air now if I should do some cheap pashminas instead… i think the blankets might have a cozier touch tho.

@ResearchBride – if you do end up going with the pashminas….well, that’s what we ended up with too.  All the pics of the rolled-up pashminas?  Love them!  πŸ™‚  I ordered 75 of them from a wholesale company called http://www.fashionunic.com and the quality was great!  They were $3.75 each since I ordered so many.  Tons of colors, no minimum, speedy shipping.  They come individually wrapped in cellophane so they’re just sitting in their box in my living room waiting for the big day.

Thanks for all the great info on the pashminas bees! How much money is everyone spending on favors/welcome bags?

@Tee- I think we’re going to end up having the max amount possibly a lil over just by estimating.  So there’s not enough room for everyone to to stay. We’re probably going to rent a bus/shuttle to go back and forth from the hotel. Not sure how things will work out since most of his groomsmen are from the area so I don’t know if they’re going to spring for a room or not. Thanks for the info on Martha’s website. I always feel more comfortable the more positive things I hear.

Where are you having your rehearsal dinner? I don’t think we’re going to do it at WP. I feel we can probably get a better deal somewhere else. My FI really likes the Muse (sp?) I’ve never been there but he thought it would be a unique place to go to. I’ll have to inspect beforehand though. πŸ˜‰

Good luck with your alterations! I’m sure everything will go well and you’ll look stunning!

Don’t be worried about the alterations.  I got my dress there too.  πŸ™‚  If you are uncomfortable with having them done there, you can take your dress to a seamstress.  I actually bought a store sample so I want them to spruce it up first for free, so I am leaving mine there.

I wasn’t planning on starting alterations until August.  Should I be going sooner?  Did you get your underthings already?  I don’t know where to go for all that.
