The type of dress that I want is really common in bridesmaids’ styles and SO much cheaper than buying a similar dress that’s labelled “bridal”.
Has anyone bought a white bridesmaids dress as their wedding dress? How did it go? Could anyone tell it wasn’t a “real” bridal gown? Where did you purchase it from and how much did you pay?
And, last but not least, can I see pictures?

I love the idea of a white bridesmaids dress as a wedding dress!

It definitely has been done! There are quite a few posts her on WeddingBee:

Go for it! Don’t let anyone tell you it has to be in the “bridal” section to be a wedding dress! The wedding industry just tries to rip you off at every turn! Can we see the dress you want? Love some dress porn 🙂

Right now, this one is my favorite. I love the wrap top from the Alfred Angelo Cinderella dress, but it’s out of my budget and would definitely not suit my wedding.

My bridesmaids dresses are ivory and one of my BM’s was almost bamboozled into ordering the ‘bridal gown’ version at the store she went to. It’s the EXACT same dress, only several hundered dollars more. She called me upset saying that she loves me but cant spend $700 on the bm dress I picked out. I was floored, the other girls order theirs for $160 + tax. I got the sales associate on the phone and when she tried to pull a fast one on me saying the dress was only available in bridal and wasn’t a bridesmaid dress, I told her the exact dress # and color # and price from the manufacturer. I had the reciept from one of the other dresses (I paid the balance for one of my girls dresses because it was outside her budget) so I had all this info in front of me. She got a HUGE earful.
In my case it’s the exact same dress with a differnt tag sewn inside. Your day, Your dress. In most cases, the dress is the same whether its a bridal dress or a BM dress.

@capergrrl: That’s what I was thinking! I’d love to see a picture of your BM dresses, if you have one.

That gown has the JCrew Taryn vibe.
I would certainly go for a white BM gown if it was the style I was going for!

My reception dress is a white bridesmaid dress. I think I secretly love it more than my gown. And I tried on a dress similar to it at David’s Bridal that was a bridal gown and it was almost $700! If you find one you like get it.

My sister-in-law wore a white bridesmaid dress for her wedding gown and you totally couldn’t tell the difference. I say go for it!
