Today I had a little time to kill, so I stopped by DB to check out the Vera Wang Bridesmaid Collection.
A couple things to note–these are Davids Bridal dresses designed by Vera Wang, not Vera Wang dresses. I am only 5 feet tall and was wearing flat shoes. Also, I had my regular bra straps tucked in. They all would have looked a little better with the proper undergarments. I think these dresses were a size 6, which is a little cozy on me. I am very curvy so keep in mind when looking at the pictures.
In general, I am not overly impressed with these dresses. There are a lot better options out there (including DB regular BM dresses) at a lower price.
First up, VW360012. I was considering this for a special occasion dress. Umm…not for very short people. This would be great on a taller, smaller-chested bride. This comes with a sash.
Me and the model
Next up is VW360027. In a word–hideous. The fabric is really cheap and NO ONE needs extra drapes of fabric on their hips/saddle bags. While it was a little small on me, even in the correct size it wouldn’t have adequate coverage in the bust area. Definitely a bad choice for larger-busted women. It doesn’t come with the brooch shown in the model picture. If you are over 5’7″ and model-skinny, you could get away with it. But why?
My favorite of the bunch, VW360013. This one surprised me. From the model picture, I would have thought that it was for the tall and skinny only. This would actually be the best choice for a plus-size woman. It has plenty of room in the bust and hips (I have legendary saddle bags). If the flanges hit you in the right place, it could be very slimming. It does not come with the brooch shown in the model picture. It needs something, as the shoulder strap has an awkward seam where it meets the bodice. Yes, I am sucking it in…
The last one I tried on was VW360059. I didn’t hate it, but crumb catcher neckline+natural waist+busty girl=NO. There are some very good reasons why I am not a professional model…For a small-chested or long-waisted woman, this could be a good choice. The champagne color would be good for a darker-skinned person, but the pale and pasty need not apply.
Last but not least is VW36004. I didn’t try it on because it is that BAD. The fabric is the same cheap look (crinkle chiffon) as VW360027. I thought it would be fun and flirty. I was wrong. At $158 it is grossly overpriced.
