I love when the groom stands out!
Otherwise he looks like a guest and is tough to spot in a crowd.
But...what will the waiters be wearing? White jackets are common for the servers....=]
@ejs~So glad you asked...they'll be wearing white dress shirts with black vests and black pants, no coat. So, he would be the only one in a white dinner jacket. We have a friend who wears one on occasion in the Summer, but I can always tell him not to. :) I can be a Re-Bridezilla to him.
Kim from Inspired Goodness did a good post on Suiting today too and has a great white dinner jacket look on there. http://www.inspiredgoodness.com/blog/2009/5/11/suiting-101-formal-looks.html
Since all the other comments are by me, I'll add another. Here's a "real" wedding from the Knot. I'll be wearing a dove gray dress similar to my profile pic. Like it?
For a summe, outdoor wedding, I recommend tan suits or seersucker. Both can be lightweight! Trust me, after being in two weddings last year, the men all wore black tuxes and looked disgusting after the ceremony. That heavy material combined with the bacl just was a bad combo. Does not make for pretty photos.
I love seersucker! I am Southern, after all. BUT, we're doing black tie optional, which is why I thought a white dinner jacket would be better. Our ceremony is outside, as is cocktail hour, but dinner is inside.
If you are going formal, and he can pull of the white jacket - ROCK IT! Why not? UBER elegant and formal but better for southern summer sun.

Ok, so we live in Alabama, where it's super hot during the summer. Hell, it's hot here until Halloween sometimes! Our vow renewal is going to be black tie optional and I'm loving the look of a white dinner jacket instead of the traditional tux. What do you think? Here are the rules...http://www.blacktieguide.com/Classic_Components/Warm_Weather.htm
and here are some pictures...
