Alright ladies, I am faced with the dilemma between serving filet mignon and chicken. Obviously filet mignon is the more expensive option which comes across as more elegant, but not everyone likes their meat cooked the same way. Rare, medium-rare, well-done, etc. so someone is bound to be disappointed.
This whole thing can be solved by serving chicken, but it usually is less of an upscale option and much like the rest of my wedding, I’d like my food to be luxurious too.
How did you ladies pick? What did you end up going for? If you went for red meat, did people complain about how it was cooked?

Can you offer a choice? Personally, if someone is giving me free tasty steak, unless it is still mooing I’m not complaining. So I vote steak all the way.

We had a choice of steak or vegetarian. All the meat was cooked medium well, and was amazing. We didn’t hear one complaint. In fact, my MIL told me that the caterer was now being called to do other events. Best compliment ever.

Personally i would chose chicken, More people will eat chicken rather then steak. You only have one option for dinner??

I’d rather have steak.. b/c chicken always seems to come out dry. I’d rather eat it a little more done steak (I like medium, medium-rare) than a dry piece of chicken.

I agree with PP that I would like the steak virtually anyway you cooked it (other than extremely rare or burnt), but I know many people who wouldn’t. I think chicken would be a safer, and therefore “better” option unless you can give your guests a choice (which is the best option IMO).

I vote steak because who has a good quality steak often unless you’re rolling in big bucks. 😉 Anyways, like other PPs questioned, you can only have one choice?

I offered both steak & chicken (as well as a seafood option), and I can tell you that out of 135 guests I think we had less than 10 people order chicken. Go with the steak.

We had this debate too. I wanted Filet, Fiance wanted Prime Rib. The cost was the same, but his argument won out that cooking filet for 300 people would suck for our caterer, and everyone likes their steak cooked a different way. We are opting for a Prime Rib carving station so that everyone can get a slice of meat however they like it.
That being said, I’d still go with the steak. Usually at weddings it’s more well done, and I’d rather eat a well done steak than chicken. I hate chicken.

Chicken is the safe choice for sure, but I’d eat wedding steak over wedding chicken any day!

Steak – Chicken is boring in my mind.

If you are not giving people a choice, then you have to go with the more universal option which is chicken. Everyone will eat chicke, but many people won’t eat steak, (myself included).

I’d vote steak, but chicken is safer. If you can, I’d offer a choice of the two.

I also feel you are safer with chicken.

Chicken. Beacause you are right, people like their steak different ways.
