I’m sending out a desparate plea to one and all for crafting advice!
I recently went through the trouble of having my cousin in Hong Kong purchase me 100 white paper lanterns for decorations. In the beginning, we would’ve saved money by having my cousin bring them back to the states for us, but then he got caught up at customs and had to pay an extra $100 for expedited shipping! So $100 over budget…
Then when my old-school Chinese mom and aunt saw the lanterns, they were APPALLED that they were white. White in the Chinese culture is a color that symbolizes death/funerals. My aunt wouldn’t accept the money back for the lanterns, saying that they were a gift from my cousin. But now my mom insists that I do something to add color to the lanterns if I’m going to use them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to add color/designs to the lanterns? My theme design is a bamboo image. The colors for the wedding are olive green, ivory, gold, with hints of wine/red. I’d like to try to create a template and paint bamboos on the lanterns, but because they are round a crinkly, it will be difficult. I’ve thought about spray painting them gold or something, but that would be A LOT of spray paint to buy and inhale!
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
