Does anyone out there have a white sapphire instead of a diamond? If so where did you get the sapphire? Any recommendations?

I don't have a white sapphire e-ring, but I do have an orange (Padparadscha) sapphire wrapped with diamonds. I got mine at Shane Company. I am sure they would have a white one too.

I think we're after just the stone at this point but I'm not sure (not allowed to know and all)

Try calling them. I know they sell settings by themselves, and they probably sell the stones separately too.

My FI and I ordered my sapphire from http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/.  We were really pleased with everything!  Mine is a ceylon sapphire, but I think I remember seeing some white sapphires as well.  Check it out!

I do!! I do!! I love my white sapphire ring. I got it because I couldn't make up my mind on a colored stone. We bought mine on etsy from: http://www.etsy.com/shop/singleBbeautiful

@iggies: I was on etsy yesterday and discovered singleBbeautiful's shop and fell in love with the set that includes your ring. My only hesitation is the quality of the stone. Do you really like it compared to a diamond? Also do you know if she does custom work? I would really appreciate any input you have on her site.

I've seen white sapphires in person in jewelry stores and they lack the intense sparkle a diamond has. They're still really pretty and if you hold tdhem side to side you'll see a difference.

The jeweler told me that a lot of people now are getting round white sapphires set in a diamond halo and she said that that is the best setting to make your sapphire look like a diamond if that's your intention.

@pec - the white sapphire is certainly not a diamond, so if that's what you're looking for, then you'll be disappointed with a white sapphire. that being said, i think the quality of her work is beautiful and the stone is nice and sparkly and clear. i didn't want a diamond, so i'm not disappointed with the stone at all. i also don't see any flaws in the stone when i look at it, so i'm really happy with it. i've had people look at my ring and say "WOW that's huge!" however, i'm not trying to hide that my stone is not a diamond and i don't care what people think. Smile she does do some custom work, but i'm not sure to what extent. we're getting a custom men's hammered band for my fiance from her.

personally, i went with the white sapphire for a few reasons, one major one being that i looked into colored stones and i just couldn't make up my mind on which i liked most. i blogged a little bit about why i chose this stone here: http://thesundaybride.blogspot.com/2010/02/where-are-your-glasses-part-1-choosing.html

i did have one amazing experience last week where the sun hit my stone just right and i saw those little rainbows that only diamond wearers see. Laughing

@iggies: Hi! I was just wondering what the type of metal is for the band of your ring. It seems like it is not quite gold. I am looking for a blend that would go with silver and gold. Yours looks very nice, was just wonderign what kind of metal is was.

@Nai:check out this website to see what the different colors look like next to each other. there's a picture about half way down the page showing all the different metals.

I have done much research on different stones for engagement rings for myself...

Money will dictate what I end up with.

At 1st I was hesitant about white sapphires, heard all kinda mixed messages.

One jeweler in jewelry store even told me white sapphires were awful stones that would get dirty easy, would be impossible to clean & could not be worn for everyday use!

I was scared to death of those stones!

Then I saw a real white sapphire in a local jewelry store, I was stunned that the stone looked so good after hearing all the awful things!

I talked to a jewelry designer by my house about white sapphires and a jewelry designer the next town over who took over his fathers jewelry design business.

Both designers said there is nothing wrong with getting a ring made out of a white sapphire.
Sapphires are a 9 on the mohs scale falling only slightly behind the diamond.

As for the fire that a diamond is supposed to have compared to the white sapphire, they are 2 different stones.
But, the white sapphire is 2nd to none!
I say go see a white sapphire up close and personel & you will see its beauty!

Where to buy loose white sapphires:

    - "jewelry television"
    has real white sapphires

    - "ebay"
has a ultra huge array of fine cut lab created white loose sapphires (be aware even when the ad says you are buying a real natural white sapphire it will be lab created).  But sill a fab deal none the less! You can get any size and shape, most come from Asia.

    -" the natural sapphire company"
These are natural white sapphires that come in any size and shape you like.  You can even tell the company what you want and if they don't have it they will find it for you for a price.

    - "diamond district in NY"
has many shapes and sizes of white natural sapphires you can buy loose or in pre made rings.

    how to clean white sapphires:

Now this was a form of contention with these stones for me.

White sapphires are difficult to clean and you must be careful.

You can NOT use a ultra sonic cleaner and shoud NOT use harsh abrasive cleaners with ammonia or anything that would clean a diamond.

You should use a bowl of water with a few drops of ordinary dish detergent. Using an old toothbrush or other soft brush, scrub gently behind the stone where dust and soap can collect. Then just rinse and pat try with a soft cloth.

    Recommend -

    Ionic Cleaners

and/or warm, soapy water and a soft brush as the best way to clean Sapphire jewelry.

And as far as "finding" "the ring" I would recommend seeking out a loose stone of your choice and having a designer make the setting you wish in sterling or gold depending on what you want to spend.

    Or

You can go the other route and purchase a ring semi mount from JTV or Ebay & buy a loose stone and take it to a jewelry designer to have it set.

Don't let others talk you into a small overpriced diamond if thats not what you want.

I have my white sapphire and I'm having my setting made by a designer I trust.

You have to go for it!

Beautiful rings, ladies!  I am seriously considering trying a white sapphire.  My sister has a princess cut and it looks just like a diamond, minus the "fire".

Resurrecting this old thread once again, because I bought a white sapphire ring and LOVE it!  I think I've finally found a ring I can live with.  Wink   It's a 1ct princess cut in white gold (excuse my banged up, unplated gold band beside it).  I expected something cloudy and greyish, to be honest, but it's very clear and sparkly!  Like most stones, it's a nightmare to try and photograph.  But I'm really surprised by the sparkles and depth.  It's very similar to a step cut in regards to clarity and being able to see each facet and the cut of the stone.  My only regret is that I didn't buy the 2ct instead!

@morganjenkstamwood:  Is your stone natural or created? It's beautiful and I really want a 2ct princess cut sapphire but cannot find any that I like. I'm aiming for natural but your stone looks great regardless. Do you mind me asking where you got the stone?

I second previous posters that the Natural Sapphire Company is the best. My FI designed my violet sapphire engagement ring there and I love it. Great customer service and it is really an experience choosing your stone and your setting. This is what my FI told me.
