I am looking to get a White Topaz ring as my engagement ring. We are both young and i would prefer if we saved money for a house, the big day etc rather than a ring… eventually i will look to change the stone but for now i like the idea of a topaz. I have seen one that i like but read about peoples white topaz chipping easily etc etc. and any websites more or less encourage the buying of diamonds. I have seen alot of people on here have other stones, but wondered what they were like to wear on a day to day basis and how long have they lasted.
thank you… im literally brand new to here so not sure what im doing lol
here is a link to the ring i LOVE.

I don’t have a topaz ring but I have a necklace that I love! Also consider moissanite

Laura4692: I have a right hand ring that is a white topaz. I’ve had it for about 6 years now and it is not as “bright” as when I first got it, if that makes sense. They can be kind of cloudy, but they are very pretty! Have you looked into white sapphires or Moissanite?

Laura4692: I have white topaz earrings and they don’t sparkle like diamonds. Not sure how much of it is due to cut vs. the actual stone. I love them.

I would suggest a white sapphire over a white topaz. White topaz does get cloudy over time. You should also look at the site called jammin gems. You can order loose stones and settings in sterling or gold and they set them for you for like $5.00 each stone.
Theres also Jewelery Television. Look up semi mounts on their site. They have loose stones you can buy. Then you pay a jeweler to do the setting.
And don’t rule out zales. They have a huge selection of white sapphire jewelry to pick from.

What about moissanite? I think that would be an excellent choice – and the stone won’t go cloudy ever etc. You might love it so much that you won’t need to change the stone!!! I seriously urge you to look into that.
I agree with a PP, I’d look into white sapphire above topaz. Have you thought of having a coloured gem, such as blue sapphire instead? Or do you want the stone to be white?

That ring is beautiful! ..I would consider getting a moissanite set in that ring..moissy is almost as hard as a diamond and would last forever! An old European cut moissanite would look awesome in that setting..a topaz or white sapphire would look gorgeous as well

thank you for all the replies! You’re so helpful! The only thing is I love that setting and struggling to find similar on a budget. I would eventually 2/3 years change the stone for something better quality but I’m deeply in love with the setting!! Would the topaz hold out for that sort of time frame?
