If so - tell me about your details!! I love talking weddings!!! Anything original, or different?
OMG I hope so!! I'm thinking really relaxed, something like what happens at a country club.. Mint Juleps, beverage bars with lemonade and iced tea. All that I can think of is a relaxed southern party... I keep imagining the easter picnic in steel magnolias... now all i need to do is get engaged (pesky details)
@Crebre: I know what you mean! We're getting married under a big oak tree & am having sweet tea & lemonade & mason jars! Gosh - the details are endless. Mason jars with candles in them...we're having tupelo honey as our favors...so much! I'm so so excited!! And YES you need to get engaged - drop all the hints you can!! It's so much fun planning a wedding!
@lees: you could sooo do something like this (it's what I have in mind)... lol I'm over the dropping hints, just waiting on him to ask the question.
Yes yes!! I love it! :) That's sort of what we're having, I just didn't know what to call what you held the sweet tea & lemonade in. My wedding planner/caterer calls them "pitchers" but I get a totally different view when I think pitchers.
i call them beverage jars :D... do you have a steinmart in your area?! they definitely have them there.
I don't! I think my wedding planner is providing them though. I'm pretty sure she's utting assorted fruits at the top too to make it look "prettier." Beverage jars are definitely a better word. Are you having a horse & carriage bring you in?
@lees: nah, i am probably getting married indoors, i think heck i dunno lol!! i haven't gone that far into details... my dad and probably M would prefer a vintage luxury car... and i like the covered aspect of them. i actually like the carnation wreaths around the base of them to dress them up a bit (like the second pic)....
steinmart's are more like apothecary jars with spouts (if that makes sense??).... are you thinking of having games etc, like horseshoes, crouquet, sand bag tosses, etc? how formal are you going? (there are sooo many ways to take the theme, you know?!)
You're right! There are so many different ways you could approach it. I guess mine is more "formal", although the horseshoe game I wouldn't be completely opposed to! That's actually such a cute idea, and where I'm getting married there's plenty of space for something like that! I do know what you meant by spouts, I love the way those look. Gosh...now you got me all hyped up about what the possibilites could be!!!!!
Me me me! I'm having a southern wedding! So far most of the southern touches involve the food. We are serving cheese grits as a side and we are having appetizers that are pulled pork on cornbread. Our rehearsal dinner is going to be even more southern though, full out famly style bbq in a barn =).
@Katiebug: OMG!! I am in love with the cheese grits! That is AWESOME!!! And the bbq - WOW! That's awesome!! When are you getting married? Omgsh..when you do, you'll have to take pictures of this amazing rehersal dinner & wedding!!!
@Katiebug: & when I meant "take pictures" I meant post them...OFCOURSE you're going to be taking pictures :)
@Mermaid: A groomsmen cake is a more "southern" thing, where do you live? Is that the only thing southern you have?
@lees: lol yeah i know a tad bit about weddings :D... what other fun games are there that can be played outside? if it's during the day, the kids could fly kites...
@CreBre: Kites would be amazing! Yes, and I am a daily-blog checker for Southern Weddings, the details are always the most important thing!! Love your advice :) I'm getting married in 2 months & some odd days and I'm just now getting all my stuff together!
lol i don't know about a groom's cake actually?! i want a chocolate wedding cake (YUMMY!!) We will also be incorporating great comfort food... i LOVE wings and nachos and burgers so we'll have gourmet food sections: gourmet mashed potatoe bar; gourmet nacho station: chicken, beef, steak as toppings, with white cheddar, yellow cheese, etc.;gourmet burger bar: with angus beef, regular beef, chicken, vegetarian option, various cheeses and toppings... and french fries (sweet potatoe, waffle, and seasoned) in cool cones..
Yummy!!

I'm leaving work going home...so please keep giving your ideas, I'll be back on in just a little while!! :)
Not until July 31, so after you! I will absolutely post pictures when I do though. You'll have to post pictures of your wedding so I can steal ideas ;). Unfortunately with a July wedding we are keeping it indoors because of weather so I can't steal all of your fun outdoor game ideas. We are also having a groom's cake, still coming up with ideas on what it should be though.
I love Southern Weddings & a few months back a wedding at our venue in Austin, TX was spotlighted!
We had what I call a "Country Italian" theme wedding. Since we got married outside in Texas I really just wanted everthing to be white w/ splashes of natural green. I actually had beverage dispensers (you can see in one of our pics when the BM is walking) I wore cowboy boots & we got married under the big oak trees too & played horseshoes. Here are just a few pics from the wedding. I've been meaning to create a bio too!
@annie: how freaky cool was it that i was explaining your wedding?!
here's a cool pic of my sort of inspiration (it's from a display table at a plantation)....
edited because none of my friggin' pix work.
@annie: yeppers!!! i think i may add your pix to my insp folder :D
@annie: I love the pictures!! You made such a beautiful bride!! I love your wedding, it looks like everything flowed together very well. I can't wait until my wedding day!
@katiebug: How are you doing your groomscake? I will for sure post pictures of my wedding! We just recently did our engagement pictures so I'm super excited about that! We have an awesome photographer.
I also know what you mean about July and having it indoors, it can get sooo hot in July!! & I live down in Florida, not sure where you live..but i gets pretty flippin hot down here! I'm hoping that my March wedding will be just right on temperature.
Hey! I'm having a southern wedding outside by the TN river. I have a lot of similar ideas as you all... apoethcary jars with lemonade, sweet tea, & (something green colored) ha... my colors are orange, yellow, & green. I found the jars at Hobby Lobby for $20 each on sale! Think citrus colors. We're having BBQ, cornbread, green beans, corn casserole, etc. I'm having a yellow wedding cake with tiny white daisies on it and instead of a grooms cake, we're doing a pie stand. I'm gonna try to incorporate my colors into the flavors of pies i use. My Fiancee's friend plays in a country/bluegrass band so they will be at our reception and violins for the ceremony. Most of my flowers will be gerbera daisies and wildflowers in mason jars with candles as centerpieces. I'm also gonna be using yellow & white gingham print table runners on some tables and may try to incorporate that in other areas too. I have so many ideas... it's just hard putting it all together in my head :) Here are some pics of my ideas...
@cmwamack: I LOVE your ideas!! I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what I want my cake to look like, though...so I'm glad you found yours! I'm not using daisies at my wedding so I wasn't sure about putting daisies on the cake. I may just put something simple on my white wedding cake, like pearls or something.
You for sure are having a southern wedding though! For our food we're just having spinach chicken, amberjack, beef tenderloins, vegetables & mashed potatoes. So, not TOO southern on that one.
Are you having a horse & carriage too?! I love it!
Have you all been to the Southern Weddings Magazine blog? It is absolutely fabulous - incredible wedding porn! Definitely check it out, especially if you are obsessed with looking at pretty things, such as myself :)
@Lees, no we're not doing a horse & carriage, although I would love to. Our ceremony is at the bottom of a hill so theres not really any way for it to get there safely. Now were debating on doing the reception where the ceremony is (outside and inside) or having everyone walk down to the river and having it on 'The Delta Queen' a big ship that is now a restaurant and hotel. I can't decide :(
@Sand: thanks for the southern wedding blog link, I haven't seen it and now am addicted ha!
Love all these cute ideas ladies! We're getting married in the south, so I guess it will be a southern wedding! I don't have a lot planned yet, but I do know there most definitely will be sweet tea!
I'm about as Southern as you can get!!!
Check out my blog!
www.theencorebride.blogspot.com
Also, our style will be similar to what you'd see at the Kentucky Derby but not stuffy. Laid back elegance and as a special touch, we're serving my great grandmothers' famous Coca Cola cake recipe as cupcakes at the rehersal dinner! (uniquely southern)
We're just beginning the whole process and cannot wait! Even my name here reflects the love I hold for this beautiful region of the country (belle n ga)!
I'm sure every bee loves their little corner of the world, but I'm seriously southern, love every bit of it, and couldn't think of anywhere else I'd want to marry!
Count me in for another southern wedding! Think magnolia garland, sweetgrass baskets, sweet tea and lemonade and shrimp and grits!
LOVE all the ideas! I have been to the southernweddings website, and I go to it EVERY DAY! I've been obsessed with it over the past few months!! :)
Keep em commin!
That is a great site! I love it too.
I have several things we're doing that I'm temporarily keeping under wraps until we choose our venue. They will depend on which one we choose, but our style is pretty much set! And colors are pinks and grassy green with the ties on the guys coming from my FAVORITE store for men, Southern Proper, and the b'maids dresses are short cocktail dresses from J. Crew!
Ohhh love! Our color's are pink & yellow! Is yours a light pink? I love the grassy green idea. We're incorporating some green into ours too! I love the ideas of the short coctail dresses...they'll def. be able to wear those again!
Check out the blog (about to run out the door..more holiday stuff!) and see the colorscheme. Second entry on the page~!
Mostly deeper pinks with some other shades for pop.
We're stepping right outta the darn preppy handbook for this one!!! Again, it's gonna be Kentucky Derby-esque in style but even more southern in feel and yet somehow we're going to make it laid back!
Acoustic guitar/trio most likely for the reception too! Summer music like Buffet, Black, and D. Matthews!
Also doing a very traditional southern wedding! Getting married in a church from the 1800's that is no longer in use and reception on my parents farm! Our colors are lemon yellow and gray! We are haivng southern food at the reception and lemonade and sweet tea along with beer and wine! We are having a BBQ for the rehersal dinner! I am having a gospel choir at the wedding and it is going to be southern to the core! :) We are using burlap as the table runners, giving away tree sapplings as favors! So excited!
