For the wedding ceremony, any special people will be doing the readings? and how did you ask them?

We asked FI's uncle and my great-uncle (we have a close relationship). We called both as they are several hours away. Godparents would be a good option too if they aren't involved in any other part of the wedding.

We had my husband's 2 sisters who were not bridesmaids do the readings, and a cousin I am very close to did the prayers of the faithful.  My cousin is younger (only in middle school), so I asked her mom first to make sure it was okay with her (they would have to travel to the wedding, so I didn't want to put her in a tough spot if they weren't able to go).  Then I just asked her on the phone.  I don't really think you need to do anything special when asking someone to do a reading.  I think my husband also just asked his sisters on the phone (maybe he even texted them, haha).  It was nice to be able to include people who might have felt left out when we decided to have a very small wedding party (only one of my SILs was a bridesmaid out of the 3, and my sister and my bff).

My uncle will be doing one reading and FI's stepbrother will be doing the other. All of his full brothers (3) are groomsmen and we really wanted his stepbrother to be involved too.

I had my youngest brother do the first reading, my other younger brother do the prayers of the faithful and then we had my SIL's husband do the second reading. I just straight up asked my brothers while we were all sitting out by my parents pool one day nothing formal but they were happy to do it. For my SIL's husband, we had asked him over dinner at christmas while they were in town. He was the most excited - they had just gotten married 6 months before us so i think it made him feel really special to be picked - My husband has a huge family - 13 brothers and sisters - while all the brothers were in the wedding party ( none of the girls ) we thought it would be nice to include him too, since besides me he was the newest memeber of the family.

Our fathers each did a reading. They are both regular lectors. for the prayers of the faithful we had my Uncle and a very close family friend of his who is like an Aunt. Our godparents brought up the gifts, well my godfather, godmother and his godmother. His godfather who is DH's Uncle was the priest who married us.

FFIL is a trained lector and will be reading the first reading.  My aunt will be reading the second reading.  She's not a trained lector, but she'll do a great job.

I asked my brother and sister-in-law.  I wanted them involved and they are both poor grad students, so I wanted to give them something important to do without a cost associated with it.  I asked them in person.

We've asked the guy's sister and a dear friend of ours. Unfortunately we're not really creative about the whole "how to ask" thing - we just asked them during random conversations Smile

One of our readers is a girl who I used to babysit when she was 5 and I was 12.  Seventeen years later, we have stayed in touch and she's morphed into a younger sister to me.  She is going to be one reader.  I basically called her and told her that we would be honored for her to be a part of the wedding and would she like to do a scripture reading.  She was too excited to say yes.

Our other reader is the fiance of the best man.  FI has known the couple for years.  I'm sort of marrying into their bromance next month and she'll be marrying into it next year.  I asked FI what he thought about having her to do the reading as we're all going to be lifelong friends from this point forward.  Again FI called her (he knew her better) and asked if she would like to be involved.  I think she was genuintely shocked but was very excited that we asked.

I love them both.  So happy they're going to be a part of our day!

My sorority "family" are going to be the readers for our wedding. It was a nice way to incorporate them without having a gazillion bridesmaids. If I weren't asking them, I would probably ask some cousins who I didn't get to use as bridesmaids. I actually sent them a facebook message to ask if they would do it... I'm kinda bad, I guess! :x

We determined, of the people closest to us, who we thought would be comfortable speaking in front of a large crowd.  We asked FI's Aunt and will probably consider adding one more person but not sure who :)

We are picking relatives that have good reading voices and are comfortable with doing the job.

One is my cousin who is also a bridesmaid; the other is FH's aunt.

Mrs.tobe    September 30, 2011   the middle of there

We're having FI's aunt (who was formerly a nun) do the Old Testament reading, my aunt do the New testament reading, and a really good friend of FI and I read the Prayer of the Faithful.

We picked not only family members/friends we're close to in our lives, but also the ones we felt are well versed, and would be most comfortable speaking in front of such a large group of people.

We had three different readings.  One by a close friend of DH's who didn't quite make being a GM, one by my closest aunt, and one by DH's godfather.

We just called all three of them up because we don't live close to any of them.

We are going to ask our confirmation sponsers--mine is my cousin and FI's is his uncle. We haven't asked yet either, but I'm sure it will just be a phone call =)
