@solidarity:  Well, it’s a casual, brightly colored, alcohol loving town lol.  It’s laid back and hot as hell from June-October. The beaches in key west are not what you think of when you think FL. They’re small and rocky, not like the white sands of Miami, but there are plenty of water sports and fun in the sun. Most everything is walkable, you can stroll from restuarant to bar, to shop to the water, etc. Hope that helps!

@AirForceWife78:  What key did you go to? That sounds like Key West, but not all of the keys are like that.

I think there is something for everyone in the keys. Just depends on your style and what your expecting out of it.

Yeah, you can drive all the way to Key West.  It is a two lane highway though, so it might be slow if you’re behind a big truck, but it is a BEAUTIFUL drive.  I mean, so gorgeous.

Key West is fantastic.  The roads are tiny and pretty much everyone uses bikes or golf carts to get around.  You have to bring a bike or rent one!!!  The beaches are pathetic though since the water is so still, it can’t make proper sand!  It is very rocky, but they import sand from the Bahamas I believe.

The downtown is adorable.  There is a sunset festival every night.  You can also visit Ernest Hemingway’s house, which is worth it for the tons of cats that live there.

@solidarity:  yup Key West! Only Key I have been to. I lived in FL for 12 years and my fav places to visit were St Augustine, Cocoa Beach, Sararsota/Siesta Key and Key west. Good luck with your HM planning!
