I have read posts where people show their grooms, friends, family, etc. I am curious as to what most people do and if there is really any kind of superstition with showing your dress to someone other than yourself and maybe mother.

My mom, my Maid/Matron of Honor, and my bridesmaids!

Roommate, bridesmaids, Future Mother-In-Law, some curious girlfriends 🙂 Hell I’ve shown it to roommate’s friends who wanted to see it too, lol.

I personally showed pictures to my mom, my Future Mother-In-Law, FI’s aunt, my sister and a couple of girls from work.
My mother showed pictures to my grandmother, my aunts and a couple of my cousins.

- Wedding: September 2013 - The Gables at Chadds Ford
Almost everyone except my dad and fiancé! I was so excited, but I was originally was torn between two dresses so I wanted opinions. I show all my patients at work (I’m a dental hygienist) if they ask what my dress looks like 😛

@PatientBride: My mom was there when it was bought, but as far as family, I showed it to my dad, my step-mom, my fiance’s mom, and my fiance’s aunts. I’ve been trying to reduce the number of family that have seen it that will be attending the wedding. I want them to be surprised.
As far as friends go that’s a whole other situation. A lot of people that I work with have seen it since I wasn’t sure who I would be able to invite to the wedding, and I showed them almost a year out anyway.

@PatientBride: Mom, Future Mother-In-Law, BM’s, and a handful of my girlfriends.
My Fiance has not seen the dress and I am very against that. I don’t think that the groom should go shopping with the bride for a dress, nor should he have a say.

My mom has seen it, and I’ve emailed a photo to my Maid/Matron of Honor. That’s all until the wedding!! I don’t see it as a superstition, but I want people to see it for the first time on me, as it really looks – not just hear about it from so and so…. or see it online since my dress looks very different in reality.

My mom and my sister were with me when I picked it out. Two of my three BMs were with me when I went to my first fitting. I showed it to my step-dad and my brothers when it came in. I think that’s it? Oh, I also showed it to a random friend who was getting married that same month.
And weddingbee…. Lol.

- Wedding: October 2013 - The Down Town Club, Philadelphia
I’ve actually showed a few people. My Maid/Matron of Honor, bridesmaids, and three other friends. One of my closest friends is pregnant with twins and her due date is the week after the wedding, so I tried it on for her. They moved to Hawaii so there is no way she will be seeing me in person.
I’ve showed photos to my mom, and my sisters-in-law, and some coworkers, and the ladies at my Cardio Barre class.
So, basically, a lot of people.
And Weddingbee…over and over and over…

I’m pretty sure everyone (except FI) has seen it thanks to my dad! I don’t care at all as long as Fiance doesn’t see it.
I had surgery a few months ago and by the time they had me prepped for anesthesia, my dad had shown all the nurses, the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and even a few patients in the room! He’s SO excited about my dress.
I’ve also had a bunch of people ask to see it and I am always more than happy to show them 🙂

I actually only took my mother and sister initially and then I took my Future Mother-In-Law later that month. I like the whole mystery/ surprise when people see me for the only first time in my dress.

I’ve showed my parents, sisters and remaining bridal party members, a bunch of other family members when they asked how my wedding planning was going, and Fiance. I’m not supersticious at all, and was so excited to pick it out that I want to show everyone who is interested! I think with the make-up, hair and emotions of the day that when Fiance and I see each other for the first time on our wedding day that it will be just as special as if he hadn’t see the dress before.
